Furthering its reputation in the stem-cell field, UW-Madison will receive more than $800,000 in grants from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
The foundation announced Wednesday it would award $4.4 million in grants to nine scientists worldwide. Two of the grants have been awarded to UW-Madison stem-cell researchers.
UW-Madison is the only institution to receive more than one grant.
One grant, $396,000 over two years, will go to Clive Svendsen, director of the Waisman Center's stem-cell research program. The other grant of $451,000 over two years will go to Su-Chun Zhang and James Thomson.
UW-Madison's researchers were chosen from 41 applicants.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research was established to encourage the world's leading stem-cell researchers to continue efforts to find a cure for the disease.
