Polls now open for commemorative quarter

Wisconsin residents can now vote for the future state commemorative quarter. The six themes the Department of Financial Institutions are presenting are: early explorations and cultural interaction; barns, agriculture and dairy; scenic Wisconsin; The State Capitol and statue \Wisconsin;"" Old Abe the Civil War eagle; and badgers.

After the April 1 voting deadline, Governor Scott McCallum will forward his final recommendation for the design to the United States Mint for the Wisconsin Commemorative Quarter, which will draw its own design based on the theme chosen.

The U.S. Mint will debut the Wisconsin quarter in 2004. It will be the 30th state quarter released, since it was the 30th state to ratify the Constitution. To vote for one of the themes or see samples of the quarter's design go to http://www.wdfi.org/.
