Gubernatorial races lack small donations

The state gubernatorial campaigns are receiving most of their funding from large donors according to a study released Tuesday.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign report said $9 out of every $10 campaigns received have come in the form of $100 or more, showing a lack of statewide support for any candidate.

\None of these candidates is running a campaign that even remotely resembles a grass roots effort,"" Mike McCabe, executive director WDC, said. ""All their campaign reports show is how much wealthy special interests like them.""

Despite claims by Gov. Scott McCallum's campaign earlier this year that 78 percent of his financial support came from donations of $100 or less, the study found McCallum received $2.26 million, or 88 percent, from large donors.

The four Democratic candidates raised between 90 and 95 percent of their campaign funds from similar donations.
