A month after predicting state spending could exceed tax collections by anywhere between $300 million and $1.3 billion, Wisconsin Gov. Scott McCallum told reporters Friday he expects the shortfall to reach the upper end of that range, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
McCallum added that he believes the public understands tough budget decisions will need to be made in the near future because of a sagging economy, although he said he is not sure lawmakers fully understand the seriousness of the budget shortfall.
\The frustration is more with legislators; the public understands, the public is there,"" he said.
McCallum said he would outline more budget details Tuesday, and that he would not rule out calling a special legislative session, the Journal Sentinel reported.
