The University of Wisconsin men's soccer team lost its opening-round game in the 2001 Big Ten men's soccer championship Thursday, falling to Michigan 1-0 at the McClimon Memorial Track and Soccer Complex.
The Badgers outshot the Wolverines 16-11 in the game but Michigan freshman goalie Bryan Lau made 10 saves.
The Wolverines struck first in the game as freshman midfielder Knox Cameron connected on a goal at the 15:59 mark.
UW had numerous scoring opportunities late in the game, but Lau made several saves in the closing minutes as the Badgers were unable to convert on their shots.
Michigan will face No. 1 seed Indiana today at 2:30 p.m.
UW senior forward Dominic DaPra and senior back Scott Repa were named first-team all-Big Ten selections at the Big Ten championship banquet Thursday evening.
