Retro 'Tron' rave on at the Union

Remember when \Tron"" came out and made such a big stir at the movie theaters? No you don't, it was 1982. Although most UW students were born a little late to see the movie in a theater, the next best thing is coming to Madison tonight'""Tron Years,"" a ""Tron"" themed dance party. ""Tron Years"" will be an alcohol-free event featuring talented live DJs, lights, screenings of the movie, and a few extra technological goodies that will last all night.

Some of the Midwest's most notable DJs will be spinning at the event. Chicago's Robert Armani (techno), who has been producing music for 17 years, has played an important role in shaping the electronic music scene.

Paul Birken (techno) from Minneapolis, an active DJ for 16 years, will be spinning his stuff. Returning from Switzerland and China, Chicago native David Prime (tech-house) will bring his superb technical abilities to the world of ""Tron"".

There will also be a number of local DJs spinning at the seven-hour event: Anonymous (jungle), Dissolvent (breaks), Mikey (house) and Lewis Ritual (techno/trance).

Lighting will be furnished by Light Fantastik and Lucid Visuals, will consist of lasers, lights and 3-D animations custom-rendered for the event. Keeping with the ""Tron"" theme, the movie will be played twice all the way through in a room adjoining the main dance area.

The event's coup de grace will be authentic arcade game units of ""Tron"" and Galaga available for all partygoers to play.

""Tron Years"" takes place at the Memorial Union Lakefront Cafe tonight, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. It is a Madlove Production and the entrance fee is $8 for UW students and $10 for non-students. The event is ages 18 and over.
