Former governor's brother plans to kick off gubernatorial race

Ed Thompson will officially join the Wisconsin governor's race today. The current Tomah, Wis., mayor and brother of former governor and current U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson issued a statement Tuesday naming tax cuts, retaining young workers and a return to \common sense government"" as his top priorities. Thompson plans to run on the Libertarian Party platform.

Thompson and several of his staff members will formally kick off his campaign by a seven-city announcement tour of Wisconsin in which he will make a brief statement and take questions from the crowd.

The first announcement will be made on the steps of the state Capitol in Madison, followed by statements in Milwaukee, Green Bay, Wausau, Superior and Eau Claire. The tour will end in Sparta, Wis., among his supporters.
