First city rail accident since beginning of whistle ban injures two

Two months after a citywide evening train whistle ban took effect, a 38-year-old Madison man and his daughter were hit by a train Sunday evening.

The accident, which took place in the 600 block of West Washington Avenue, is the first to occur after Madison City Council passed a controversial ban on the whistles, which are only to be used in cases of emergency.

According to a statement from the Madison Police Department, Xiping Wang saw the warning lights and crossed the tracks when he did not see a train.
