Across-the-board budget cuts at Monday's Dane County Board of Supervisors meeting threatened to trim up to a third of county funding to organizations like the Tenant Resource Center and the Rape Crisis Center, said Sup. Scott McDonell, District 4.
While the TRC receives funds from UW-Madison and the state, the majority of its funding comes from the county budget.
According to McDonell, the $274,000 cut to human services, the county's largest agency, is a compromise from the $500,000 cut proposed by conservative members of the board.
After board negotiations reached the compromise on human services funding, McDonell said County Executive Kathleen Falk agreed to maintain funding levels for the TRC and RCC.
\In the end it turned out okay,"" he said, ""but next year the same thing could happen again.\
