Reports released to Madison media outlets indicating that a photographer's convention planned to leave Madison because of the Madison Metropolitan School Board's position on the Pledge of Allegiance proved to be a hoax, The Capital Times reported Saturday.
The erroneous reports were released Thursday after Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau President Deb Archer received an e-mail from the president of the 'American Society of Magazine Photographers,' indicating the group was pulling its convention from the city after the school board's decision to eliminate the pledge from classrooms.
However, Archer later found out the group had changed its name to the 'American Society of Media Photographers' several years ago.
Archer told The Capital Times her group was unable to find any local hotel reservations for the alleged organization, and that attempts to reach the writer of the e-mails were unsuccessful.
