In an effort to strengthen the lines of communication between local and state law enforcement agencies, Attorney General Jim Doyle announced the formation of a security unit Monday to keep an eye out for terrorist activity in Wisconsin.
The unit, while working with the FBI, will train local police agencies to combat terrorism, serve as a center of information for state security and provide legal advice for police departments, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
Doyle said the new organization will be composed of current state agents and will monitor enrollment in flight training schools, handling of hazardous materials and large purchases of fertilizer or guns.
Representatives from local police agencies including the UW-Madison Police Department met Monday to open the lines of communication and set strategy. In the future, local and statewide policing bodies will monitor suspicious activity while in the commission of regular duties and patrols.
