U.S. not isolated from global community

There is a young man in my hall who, as a child, refused to believe that the world was round. He thought that other continents, other countries were fictions passed on by his parents, like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. The world ended after California. He jokes that he is taking these next several months circumnavigating the globe, just to be sure.
