Clear Channel Communications, owner of more than 1,000 radio and television stations across America, released a statement Tuesday refuting claims of a 'list of banned songs' that the corporation allegedly distributed to its stations after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.
'Clear Channel Radio has not banned any songs from any of its radio stations,' the statement reads, adding that it is up to local stations to decide whether broadcast content is appropriate.
A list published earlier in the week on Slate, a Microsoft-owned online magazine, include such titles as the Dave Matthews Band's 'Crash into Me,' 'Jet Airliner' by Steve Miller and Bruce Springsteen's 'I'm On Fire.'
All told, 162 song titles were on the list, Slate reported.
In Madison, Clear Channel owns WIBA-AM, WIBA-FM, WMAD-FM, WMLI-FM, WTSO-AM and WZEE-FM.
