After initially deciding Saturday's football game between Wisconsin and Western Kentucky at Camp Randall Stadium would be played as scheduled, UW Athletics Director Pat Richter announced in a press conference Thursday that the game has been canceled.
'In consultation with the governor and the chancellor and in our discussions, [we believed] the best thing to do was to cancel the game,' Richter said.
Richter and Chancellor John Wiley also announced in a joint statement that all other UW sporting events scheduled for this weekend will be canceled.
No events have been rescheduled yet, but Richter and football Head Coach Barry Alvarez were optimistic an agreement could be reached.
Fans with tickets for Saturday's game should keep those tickets. The Athletics Department will honor tickets for the Sept. 15 game, should the game be rescheduled.
