Badger Bits

 

 

Senior Lizzy Fitzgerald has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association/ YSports Imports National Player of the Week. She was also named the Big Ten Player of the Week for her performance in the Marriott Showcase last weekend. 

 

 

 

The 6'0\ setter guided then-fourth-ranked Wisconsin to three straight wins, including an upset of No. 2 Southern California. She averaged 13.67 assists, 1.33 kills, 2.25 digs and 1.42 blocks per game on the weekend.  

 

 

 

This is the second time Fitzgerald, a native of New Orleans, has been named the National Player of the Week. She was honored for her performance last Sept. 16 to 23.

A week after finishing with a 1-1 record at the State Farm Classic tournament in Stockton, Calif., the Badgers returned to California this weekend and returned home with much better results. 

 

 

 

Wisconsin won all three of its games in the Marriott Showcase last weekend, emerging with wins over University of California-Irvine, University of California-Santa Barbara and a grueling five-game victory over second-ranked Southern California. 

 

 

 

Following UW's three victories, the Badgers moved up one spot to third in the USA Today/AVCA Top 25 Coaches' poll, released Sept. 3.  

 


 

 

Senior Dominic DaPra was named the Big Ten's Player of the Week for his efforts this weekend in the Rocky Rococo Classic Soccer Tournament. 

 

 

 

DaPra scored five of Wisconsin's six goals in two Badger wins and was named the offensive MVP of the Rocky Rococo Classic. 

 

 

 

In the season opener against St. Francis, he converted a penalty kick and then added another goal as Wisconsin won 3-0. Sunday, the senior posted his second career hat trick as the Badgers defeated Alabama A&M, 3-1. 

 


 

 

Wisconsin's home football game against Western Kentucky Sept. 15 will begin at 1:05 p.m. CST. Wisconsin Public Television will re-broadcast the game Saturday at 10 p.m.
