Groundwater Coordinating Council recommends legislature address PFAS, nitrate

The Groundwater Coordinating Council (GCC) of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources released their annual report on Sept. 1, containing recommendations for the state legislature. The report’s priority recommendations include protecting groundwater from nitrate, addressing public health and environmental concerns regarding PFAS and evaluating groundwater for other pathogens.

DHS, UHS emphasize importance of flu shots

University Health Services and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services are stressing the importance of getting flu shots, especially this year. DHS announced a new community outreach program Tuesday to increase education on the importance of being vaccinated against the flu.

Legislature takes no action during special session on police reform

Only a few lawmakers attended the special session of the Wisconsin State Legislature on policing reform yesterday. No debates or voters were held and the session adjourned shortly after a Senate clerk and a few Assembly lawmakers gaveled it in. Gov. Tony Evers had called for the legislature to convene following the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, in Kenosha, WI.
