After a training session, student employees at the Southeast Recreational Facility walked into a gymnasium to find large sheets of paper tacked on the walls. They were provided markers and asked a key question: What would you like to see in your recreational spaces?

City greenlights 500 block State Street redevelopment

Common Council’s Aug. 6 approval of Chicago-based developing firm Core Campus’ bid to transform the 500 block of State Street into a high-rise apartment complex called The Hub solidified the future of the aisle previously inhabited by Husnu’s, Kabul and Buraka; three long-standing and beloved restaurants that will be torn down, according to Ald. Mike Verveer, District 4.

City to seize Mondays' liquor license for 30 days this fall

Pending city Council approval Tuesday, the popular State Street watering hole Mondays, historically frequented by students, will be forced to close for a 30-day period sometime before Dec. 2, 2013 for violating several terms on its liquor license over the past year and a half, according to Ald. Mike Verveer, District 4.

Local police aid federal sex trafficking bust

Madison Police Department employees helped the Federal Bureau of Investigation recover two girls under the age of 18 from forced prostitution sometime between July 25 through 28 as part of a nationwide effort to end domestic sex trafficking, according to MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain.
