SUV found submerged in Lake Mendota, one body recovered

A Dane County woman’s body was the only one found in or near an SUV submerged in Lake Mendota near the Spring Harbor Park boat launch. Dane County Medical Examiner Director of Operations Barry Irmen identified the victim as Julie B. Metcalfe of Fitchburg Monday night. She was 51. According to the Madison Fire Department, around 7:30 a.m. Monday the report of the submerged SUV came in.

CrossFit games coming to Madison

The CrossFit games, a sports competition based in the fitness regimen created by Greg Glassman, will be hosted in the Alliant Energy Center from 2017 through 2019, according to a city press release. “As a competitive CrossFit athlete for several years, I was elated when Jamie Patrick of the Madison Sports Commission approached me about Madison putting together a bid for the Games,” Ald.

Credit card skimmer found near campus

A City of Madison inspector found a credit card skimmer in a gas pump located at Genin’s Mobil on the 3500 block of University Avenue Tuesday, according to a Madison Police Department incident report. “He was conducting random inspections when he made the finding on pump five at Genin's Mobil."

Mayor Paul Soglin said Madison’s policies regarding immigrants won’t change following the election and the city will stay in a coalition of city’s that protects citizens regardless of status.

Soglin says city’s immigration policies won’t change

Madison Mayor Paul Soglin and Police Chief Mike Koval said Wednesday that the city’s policies regarding immigration will not change in light of the election, while City Attorney Michael May said he will be researching impacts of possible changes in federal immigration policy. The three officials held a press conference Wednesday with several city alders to address the issue.

Fight on Park Street leaves 14-year-old girl unconscious

Three teenagers were arrested last week after a fight on South Park street left two other teenagers injured, one of whom was unconscious. “The victim was pulled down by the hair and punched multiple times in the head,” Madison Police Department Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain wrote in an incident report.

Violating the alternate side parking ordinance can be punishable with a $20 fine, which increases to $60 during a declared snow emergency.

Alternate side parking rules go into effect Tuesday

The City of Madison will start enforcing alternate side parking rules Tuesday at 1 a.m., and the rules will stay in effect through March 17, 2017. The alternate side parking rules mean that Madison residents must park their cars on the odd-numbered side of the street between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. on odd dates, and park on the even-numbered side of the street on even date mornings, according to a city press release.

Man arrested for peeping on Langdon Street

Madison Police Department officers arrested John Kuznezow, 54, for invasion of privacy Monday night after there were reports of a man sitting in a tree looking through windows on Langdon Street. “Upon arrival officers discovered Kuznezow still in the tree and he appeared to be looking in a second floor window to an apartment,” MPD Lieutenant Anthony Fiore wrote in an incident report. “When officers ordered Kuznezow out of the tree they noted his pants were undone and Kuznezow had no reasonable explanation for his presence in said tree.” MPD investigated the incident and found there was a female resident inside her apartment and that she was unaware the suspect had been watching her.
