Two Dane County residents have tested positive for the West Nile Virus, the first two of the season in the county and the third and fourth in Wisconsin. The disease, which is not spread from person to person, is contracted when an infected mosquito bites an individual.

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced his nearly $584 million 2017 budget Thursday, highlighting initiatives to combat homelessness, opiate use and mental health. In an effort to get politics out of the the process of redistricting, the Dane County Board has approved creation of an independent citizens commission to draw political boundaries after the 2020 census.
