In all artwork, representation and opportunity has become an objective of the highest importance. This shows itself in what art looks like or what it contains, but also in who creates it or performing it.

Many in Madison would say that the best thing about living here is the number of concerts and live performances that come through town each year. The level of professionalism and quality in which artists possess is astounding in every performance — be it at The Sylvee or the Majestic or anywhere else.

Throughout music history, few bands and acts have been able maintain a level of consistent success as well as Breaking Benjamin has. Enduring its own share of struggles, founder/lead vocalist Ben Burnley has reorganized, assembling a new incarnation of the legendary hard rock group. Now a five-piece well-oiled machine, many fans, critics and even Burnley himself feel the band is heavier and more complete than in the past.

The Overture Center off State Street has long been considered a high-quality establishment to see a high-quality show. Some of the biggest acts in the performing arts have made their way through Madison and made a stop at the Overture. Many Madison residents have attended as guests or have had the privilege to work there.

On Thursday, Jan. 31, Madison was on the back end of the worst week of cold weather that many of us have ever seen. Residents were told to stay inside, turn up the heat and not leave unless it was necessary. Surely, no one would be in the mood to celebrate just yet with temperatures well below zero and snow falling steadily, right? Well, Madison’s music and concert scene didn’t seem phased one bit.
