whether you should be allowed to drink legally. There is one

ninth annual Diversity Forum to discuss racial and ethnic diversity
among the student body. The forum unofficially marks the end of
Plan 2008, a 10-year-old plan implemented to increase diversity on
campus.

Across the country, 24 states - including Wisconsins neighbors
Illinois and Minnesota - have passed statewide smoking bans.
Wisconsin, on the other hand, has failed to pass a similar
statewide ban every year since 2003. On Thursday, the Dane County
Board voted in favor of a county-wide smoking ban, placing greater
pressure on state lawmakers to realize the pressing need for a
uniform, statewide ban on public smoking.

pulpits. Despite the government's opposition to religious figures

As the presidential candidates continue to duke it out in
Wisconsin, a smaller battle will be waged in court this Friday, and
its outcome may make it harder for some Wisconsin voters to cast
their ballot come Election Day.

Although Wisconsin may have voted yes to the gay marriage ban
only two years ago, at least Dane County is ready to correct the
state's shortsighted decision to strip equal rights from domestic
partners in same-sex marriage.

Complaints of poor maintenance in buildings below housing code
and reports of slow response time from property owners are
extremely common among student tenants in Madison. According to
court documents filed last week, the parents of Brittany
Zimmermann, who was slain in her West Doty St. apartment on April
2, the inaction of Zimmermann's landlord, Wisconsin Management,
Inc., played a role in her murder.

Have you ever appreciated the ease with which Madison allows its
college students to register for elections at the state and federal
level? Polling locations on or near campus demand little proof of
identity, hardly any hurdles and virtually no drawbacks or caveats
to engaging in the electoral process. In Virginia, however, local
authorities have complicated this democratic procedure,
specifically for the students of the Virginia Tech campus.

The athletic department has a recurring dream concerning student
section seating at Camp Randall. It's an Orwellian dream where
students uniformly file into their assigned section, and since Big
Brother is watching, students wouldn't dare sit somewhere other
than their assigned seat. Unfortunately, this hypothetical euphoria
doesn't translate to reality. In the real world, student seating is
never going to be perfect, and it's hard to imagine such a
situation.

to turn the page has finally arrived. Dane County executives and
the 911 Center must take full advantage of it.

sixth murder in Madison in 2008. Juan J. Bernal, 22, of Madison was
stabbed outside the Plaza Tavern following an altercation with
another bar patron Wednesday evening.

As a result of the Dane County 911 Center's failing to return

have been brought to light. One of the most important issues facing
the Madison Police Department is the student body's loss of faith
in the 911 system.
