The Badger faithful have patiently and eagerly waited and after
a grueling summer, Bucky fans across the state and country are
proudly whistling \On Wisconsin"" as visions of the UW Marching
Band dance through their heads. The crowded stadiums, the Saturday
morning games and the raucous cheers are all right around the
corner. But up first is a trip to Morgantown, W. Va. to take on the
Mountaineers.

It seems as if all the stars and planets have aligned for the
No. 24 Wisconsin Badgers' (11-4 Big Ten, 21-6 overall) Big Ten
regular season finale versus No. 14 Illinois (10-4 Big Ten, 20-5
overall) tonight at the Kohl Center. With Senior Night, a
conference championship on the line and a hero's last appearance
before the home crowd all factoring into the game, not many
expected this year to end in the improbable fashion that has
quietly grown in the last few weeks.

In his second season as head coach of the Badger men's
basketball team, Bo Ryan is seeing things reversed compared to last
year's start. Many fans and pundits feared a long and grueling
season after a sluggish start a year ago. Then the Badgers decided
to play beyond expectations and won a share of the Big Ten title.
So what does that bode for this year's team, off to a 5-1
nonconference start? Absolutely nothing--which is a good
thing.

As far as big games go, they do not get much bigger for the
Badgers than this Saturday. The Badgers (1-6 Big Ten, 6-6 overall)
have to deal with a multitude of underlying themes when they take
on Minnesota (3-4, 7-4) at Camp Randall Stadium.

The sky is becoming grayer, the days are drearier, and the sun
is disappearing earlier and earlier, but there is no sign of
dormancy in the No. 13 Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team.

After a locomotive-like offensive performance against Michigan
State a week prior, the steam ran out and the wheels ground to a
halt for the Badgers against the Iowa Hawkeyes Saturday in Iowa
City, Iowa.

It's do or die time in East Lansing, Mich., this Saturday, for
both the Spartans and the Badgers. Michigan State (1-2 Big Ten, 3-4
overall) and Wisconsin (0-3 Big Ten, 5-3 overall) each face a must
win to try and salvage disappointing seasons.

There will be no battle royale between senior wide outs Lee
Evans and Charles Rogers this year in East Lansing.

Can you hear it? It starts off softly, like a warm summer breeze
drifting across your face, and slowly its strength builds. Bass,
resonance, pure volume all increase twofold. The ground rumbles
beneath your feet, the air starts to vibrate, and then you hear it.
\Ru-dy, Ru-dy, Ru-dy.""

A wise man once said that familiarity breeds contempt. With that
in mind there should be no love lost between the Badger women's
soccer team (0-1-1 Big Ten, 3-4-2 overall) and conference rivals
Michigan and Michigan State when the Badgers take both on in a Big
Ten home conference stand this weekend.

Sophomore defensive lineman Darius Jones had a fabulous high
school career, entered the University of Wisconsin a semester early
and received the most accolades of any player in the 2000
recruiting class. Sounds like a recipe for instant stardom as a
Badger football player. But with life, sometimes the batter gets a
little lumpy.
