This year ESPN released a list called “Ranking the happiness of every college football fan base.” The survey took into account program power, rivalry dominance, coaching stability, recruiting trend, revenue growth and Twitter buzz. The results were in many ways unsurprising. Wisconsin came in at 14th out of 128 FBS programs. Predictably, its strong suits according to the survey were program power (95/100), revenue growth (98/100) and rivalry dominance (99/100). It’s hard to argue with those numbers.

It happened — Saquon Barkley had a “bad” day. But could this also show how dependent Penn State is on their star running back? Penn State had been averaging 441 yards per game. On Saturday, they were held to just 283 yards of total offense. If Penn State wants to be a legit title contender, they’ll have to find a way to score without relying solely on Barkley.

In a wild and hectic week nine on the national college football scene, the Big Ten certainly didn’t disappoint. Penn State-Ohio State turned out to a be one of the best games of the season and set the Buckeyes up for a National Championship run. Northwestern knocked off Michigan State to throw off the Big Ten East. Meanwhile in the Big Ten West, the Badgers continued their winning ways by beating Illinois and maintaining their two-game lead over NU.

In a few weeks, once winter strikes Madison, Nick Nelson will spend more time figuring out what he’s going to wear around campus than what he was previously used to. Two years ago, while Nelson attended the University of Hawaii, he went to late-fall and winter classes in basketball shorts and slides. But his decision to play football closer to his home in Glenarden, Maryland as well as in a bigger conference, has forced him to make a fashion adjustment: He now spends more time deciding what he’s going to wear out of the house.

The Maryland Terrapins come to Camp Randall this Saturday desperately looking for a win. Following a strong display of 114 points in its first two games, the Maryland offense will come into Camp Randall looking for any kind of offense that it can put together after only scoring 69 points in its last four contests combined. After Maryland lost starting quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome to a season-ending ACL tear, the Terps have relied on Max Bortenschlager who has filled in nicely for the Terrapins, throwing for 561 yards, completing just over 50 percent of his passes. However, Maryland will need perfect play from Bortenschlager and his supporting cast to beat the Badgers seventh-ranked defense in the nation.

After upsetting then-No. 23 Texas 51-41 on the road in their season opener, the Maryland Terrapins (1-2 Big Ten, 3-3 overall) have had a rollercoaster season. The Terps routed Towson in their second game before being blown out by the University of Central Florida 38-10 at home. Maryland then outlasted Minnesota to earn a 31-24 road win before being picked apart by No. 9 Ohio State 62-14 in Columbus. In their last game, the Terps fell at home to Northwestern, 37-21.
