Coming into the season, it was expected that the Wisconsin men's
hockey team (0-2 WCHA, 1-3 overall), containing 20
freshman and sophomores, would face its fair share of adversity,
but the hope is that the youth on this team will learn from those
experiences and grow.

The last time the Wisconsin women's hockey team lost a game, it
went almost 11 months without dropping another one.

In recent months, I've been forced to come to terms with the fact
that somewhere along the line, I became a hipster. For most,
""hipster"" remains a dirty word, an insult implying shallow
self-absorption and a snobbish enslavement to certain ephemeral
trends. I prefer to be more optimistic.

For the young No. 18 Wisconsin men's hockey team (0-0
WCHA, 1-1 overall), this season is a series of
challenges. This weekend is no different, as the Badgers will play
their first road series of the year against Michigan Tech (0-0
WCHA, 2-0 overall) to open WCHA
conference play.

‘50s crooner up and joined a punk

Postpone those ""Halloween,"" ""Friday the 13th"" and other various
horror movie marathons just another week longer (except for maybe
""Hocus Pocus,"" since we all know that's getting
watched more than once anyway). The WUD Film committee
has got some flicks coming up for which you will not want to keep
your eyes covered—though tightly squeezing the hand next to you may
still be permissible.

When a friend of mine recently told me that the rap crew Odd Future
existed only to inspire more thinkpieces, he meant that they only
had a following because they are an incredibly interesting group,
not necessarily because their music has any quality. After some
thought, I have decided to accept his proposal at face value and
move on with my life. Hence, this is my second column on Odd Future
in two weeks.

With Oscar season ahead, 2011 is looking more and more like the
year of the Gosling. In the wake of her Best Actress Oscar win for
""Black Swan"", this was promising to be Natalie Portman's year in
the spotlight as Hollywood's darling. After all, Portman had no
less than three movies hit theaters this year.

As the Wisconsin men's hockey team prepares to kick off its season
this weekend, you can't help but experience a bit of
déjà vu.

I had to write about Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All at some
point. Over the last year, critics and bloggers have written
hundreds of articles, think pieces and columns about the already
infamous Los Angeles rap ""family"" led by Hodgy
Beats, Frank Ocean and Tyler the Creator. Admittedly, the glut
appeared about six months ago, when the crew finally broke into the
mainstream in a very large and boisterous way.

Despite the major movie studios' absolute infatuation with 3-D (or
perhaps, more accurately, the inflated box office hauls that
inevitably accompany 3-D) it seems like its popularity among the
general public has once again peaked and is beginning to wane, just
like it did 50 years ago when the iconic red-and-blue glasses were
still in use.

Badger fans have earned themselves plenty of praise over the past

Whatever you have planned for October, cancel it, because WUD Music

When R.E.M. broke up last week, I didn't feel the
loss. When the White Stripes called it quits, sure. When Sony
announced it was firing Sam Raimi and rebooting the
Spider-Man franchise, Jesus; I didn't answer my phone for a day and
a half. Instead, I just sat alone in my apartment and drank,
cursing Topher Grace at the top of my lungs. There
really wasn't much else to do.

While a few dedicated dreamers still
strolling to class in cargo shorts and flip-flops may be ignoring
the inevitable, the ugly truth is that summer is over and the fall
semester is upon us. It's hard to ignore the clearly inverse
relationship going on here—the temperature keeps dropping and the
homework keeps piling up.

On Sept. 17, the Wisconsin women's hockey team gathered for its
first official practice ahead of the 2011-'12 season. The Badgers
received their national championship rings, and could be forgiven
for letting their minds drift back to last spring, when they rode
the momentum from a dominant season into the Frozen Four and
captured the fourth title in their program's history.

The first thing I noticed when I put on Thrice's
Major/Minor was how much heavier it was than
Beggars. This is finally the record I've been waiting for
since I first heard The Artist in the Ambulance
eight years ago.

In continuing last week's long explanation of the Wisconsin Union
Directorate's many opportunities for student involvement, I present
to you all: Part II, in which Jaime explains the rest of the crafty
committees. It's time to find your niche.

the sport in general.
