Team captain and star senior catcher Chloe Miller was selected 11th overall in the 2017 National Pro Fastpitch Draft Monday night. Miller was picked by the Akron Racers, the league’s longest tenured team. The senior from Bettendorf, Iowa, has enjoyed a historic season so far for the Badgers, hitting .440 with nine home runs and 42 RBI. Miller is on pace to break the program’s single season records in both average and runs batted in.

After a thrilling finish Friday night that saw the Badgers walk off in extra innings, Wisconsin (7-9 Big Ten, 28-11 overall) struggled to keep up with No. 19 Michigan (13-3, 33-10-1) in game two of the weekend series, dropping the contest 10-2 in five innings.

Entering the eighth inning of Friday’s thriller against No. 19 Michigan (12-3 Big Ten, 32-10-1 overall), the Badgers (7-8, 28-10) faced a challenge all too familiar. Just two days earlier at Goodman Diamond, Wisconsin took No. 5 Minnesota to extras after a scoreless seven innings, but surrendered six runs in the top of the 12th and lost to their rivals in the first game of a crucial conference double header.

Earth Day observers who were anticipating a close and exciting softball game between The Daily Cardinal and The Badger Herald might be out of luck. The Herald—all eight of them—reportedly don’t have enough people or the will to even show up on time to the annual showdown at Vilas Park.

After slamming the Iowa Hawkeyes (9-22, 3-5) in a seven-run rout Friday night at the Goodman Diamond, the Wisconsin Badgers (24-7, 3-5) were outplayed in the second game of the series, losing 4-3. Wisconsin outhit the Hawkeyes 9-to-2 in the first game, but was outhit 10-to-4 by its Big Ten West rival Saturday afternoon.

Wisconsin (24-6, 3-4) rebounded from last weekend’s less-than-stellar showing against Nebraska with a big win, beating Iowa (9-22, 3-5) 8-1 Friday night at the Goodman Diamond. Led by freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Menz and senior utility player Chloe Miller, perhaps the team’s two most important members, the Badgers overpowered the Hawkeyes from the outset and never took their foot off the gas. Friday’s win was a complete team effort; five different Badgers drove in runs and eight different players scored.

The No. 22 Badgers couldn’t quite pull out a victory against Nebraska in their home opener, falling 7-4 in eight innings. After a hot start that brought in four runs in the first four innings, Wisconsin’s offense cooled down and was held scoreless for the last four innings of the contest.

No. 21 Wisconsin (2-1 Big Ten, 23-3 overall) entered last weekend’s series against Northwestern (1-2, 12-16) in Evanston with tons of momentum, riding a 12-game win streak that included a no-hitter from freshman Kaitlyn Menz just a few days earlier. However, the Badgers still had a daunting three game set in front of them, as they were attempting to win their first series in Evanston since 2001.
