The Badgers’ stellar start to the 2017 campaign continued this past weekend in Fort Myers, Fla., at the Sheraton Invitational. Wisconsin won four of five games to bring its overall record this season to 12-2.

The Badgers are clearly enjoying being away from the frigid Madison weather. Wisconsin softball, playing in the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Foundation Invitational in Clearwater, Fla., wrapped up their second of three consecutive series in the Sunshine State with success this past weekend. The Badgers came away with a 2-1 record, including wins over St. Joseph’s and Hofstra. Their only loss of the tournament, and first of the year, came to No. 14 James Madison.

The Badgers opened their season with a bang last week in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the Ramada UNI-Dome Classic, coming away with a perfect 4-0 record. Led by senior center fielder Chloe Miller, who batted .615 for the tournament, Wisconsin faced little trouble on their way to the tournament title.

It was a year of overachievement for the Wisconsin softball team (11-11-1 Big Ten, 28-24-1 overall), as they won at least one game against every conference opponent they played in the regular season. The team also qualified for the Big Ten tournament, which was a major season-long goal according to head coach Yvette Healy.
