For a brief stretch in Wisconsin’s (4-10 Big Ten, 11-16 overall) 83-72 loss to No. 20 Michigan (9-5, 20-7), the Kohl Center faithful rose to its feet in excitement. A 12-0 run that lasted just under five minutes midway through the second half sent an arena dying for something to cheer about into euphoria.

When David Rossing finished graduate school and began driving for Union Cab in 2010, it was a temporary job while he looked for a tenured position at a university. But eight years later he has fallen in love with the organization and takes pride in his career as a cab driver and part-owner of the Union Cab cooperative.

On Jan. 29, Daniel Hernandez — known by his stage name, Tekashi 6ix9ine (pronounced “six-nine”) — posted a celebratory video on his Instagram. The post announced his debut mixtape, DAY69, out Feb. 23, as he recapped his achievements in 2017 with his daughter by his side. 6ix9ine was positive in his message, telling artists of all forms to follow their dreams against whatever criticism may follow. However, further investigation of 6ix9ine’s life and music will reveal there is little to be happy about. If what 6ix9ine is speaking is the truth, the release of his full-fledged mixtape will represent a very troublesome step forward for an up-and-coming artist and other rappers of his generation, all of whom are detrimental to both hip-hop and society as a whole.

I could use some real advice. My roommate has an older brother in New Jersey who’s had a pretty rough time after dropping out of college. She said he quit to join a business venture with an old high school friend. They were only about four months into it when he decided he didn’t want to do it anymore.

Freshman guard Brad Davison spent the majority of the first half of Wisconsin’s 80-70 to No. 15 Xavier (3-0) pestering Musketeer players, making contested jump shots and pumping his fists in excitement. But in the Badgers’ (2-1) first loss of the season, his inexperience was also on full display.

Norwegian black metal moguls Mayhem put on a dramatic exhibit at the Majestic Theatre Tuesday night, playing the entirety of their highly influential 1994 debut album, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Known for using pseudonyms for their stage aliases, the active lineup featured one founding member, bassist Necrobutcher, who was absent from the group during the record’s production. Active in Mayhem since 1988, drummer Jan Blomberg, who is known for his work as Hellhammer in many black metal groups, was present for the entirety of the album’s development. Singer Attila Csihar joined on temporarily to track its vocals before becoming a permanent member more than a decade later.

I was introduced to Slowdive by a close friend on a road trip more than two years ago. Zigzagging through the dry hills of southern California in May, I was intrigued by the group’s mellow psychedelia. My occasional listening and modest fanhood provided a gateway into the shoegaze genre, but my expectations for their live act were inadequate. Witnessing their profound showcase served to reinforce the value of seeing live music.

The Forward Theater Company kicked off its ninth annual season with Lauren Gunderson’s “I and You” at the Overture Center’s Playhouse Theater. The play opened on Thursday, Nov. 2 and will run until Nov. 19 and, trust me, this is a show you do not want to miss.

The results of UW-Madison's first campus climate survey are in, and the numbers proved what many students already knew to be true — not everyone feels welcome here. And perceptions of the environment are only the tip of the iceberg, as we've seen dozens of hate crimes on university grounds in the past few years.

Trap music begins between zones and moves cross-country. After releasing two solo projects earlier this year, Future and Young Thug finally comes together on one project like a team line-up and brings the music industry back down south. SUPER SLIMEY debuted this past weekend from Atlanta rappers Future and Young Thug. Survival-like adaptation takes us between Codeine syrup, Percocet conversation and weekly exchange. The newly-released mixtape captures Atlanta’s continued legacy and the trivial parts that create the greatest resilience from the studio to the streets. Often overlooked, a quickly-paced mixtape runs from beginning to end on two separate missions, maintaining momentum like pythons and attacking multiple times.

After a second string of statements by Jemele Hill that were deemed to have violated ESPN’s social media guidelines, the company announced they were suspending her for two weeks. Regardless of one’s political stance on the issue of the national anthem protests, ESPN’s decision to suspend Ms. Hill illustrates a fundamental problem with their business model. On one hand, ESPN advocates for an intersection of sports and culture, as evident by their daily debates on Colin Kaepernick’s protest. However, while the company has made a conscious choice to embrace these types of subjects, they punish their employees when their positions become too controversial. This attempt to balance controversy and mainstream appeal results in dissatisfied consumers, and unfair treatment to their employees.
