For many of you incoming freshmen, going to Camp Randall on September 10 will be your first taste of Badger football, at least in person. However, even for seniors like me, this season feels new, because for the first time, there will be a starting quarterback other than Joel Stave.
MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Zoo was struck by tragedy this Wednesday, as one of its last remaining male African penguins was fatally shot by a zookeeper.
In one of nature’s more endearing displays, a panda paws at a narrow, basil-colored stick of bamboo. Propping the chute up like a flute, the panda tries to meander the bamboo into its mouth. It leans back just a little too far, awkwardly rolling onto its back as it gnaws on the chute like a toothless child. After the victorious snap of fiber, the panda props itself up toward the zoo crowd around it, flashing a hint of pride as it goes for another bite.
Next season, for the first time since 2011, Wisconsin will be hosting a Big Ten team under the lights at Camp Randall. However, they won’t just be hosting one conference night game. In the words of Ernie Banks “Let’s play two.” In October 2016, the Badgers will face both Ohio State and Nebraska in primetime matchups.

There isn’t a single genre of music that fully encapsulates the sound of both Chicago-based band Wild Belle and their opener James Supercave. On the first stop of their nationwide tour, the groups graced the visitors of The Sett with an energetic show. The venue was filled with college students and adults alike who began enjoying the show seated at the tables. By the end of the show, there wasn’t much room to even move around.
After a close game against Illinois Friday that resulted in a loss, the Badgers (9-6-1 Big Ten, 24-17-1 overall) were looking to come back with a vengeance Saturday afternoon in the second game of a three-game series. They did just that, beating the Illini (6-10, 27-19) by the score of 4-1.
Wisconsin (8-6-1 Big Ten, 23-18-1 overall) dropped a back-and-forth game against Illinois, 4-3 Friday afternoon at Goodman Diamond.
One of my favorite mixes of the last few years is WHY BE’s "Juice Infinite (YB Myspace Mix)." Every song in the 45-minute set was ripped from Myspace pages dating as far back as 2007, when the website was considered one of the leaders in both online music and social media. While the scope of the mix isn’t even 10 years away from present time, it sounds almost scarily dated, undoubtedly sending some listeners into flashbacks of their days pursuing Myspace under questionable web handles.
Hello, my name is Jonah.
It is not breaking news that college years are filled with wild emotions.
A day or so before the NCAA Tournament began, I used The Daily Cardinal's brand-new flashy win probability calculator to look at teams that would provide the best long-run return on a bet to win the championship. That is, I compared each team's odds of cutting down the nets with the odds the betting public gave them.
On Thursday night, The Sett at Union South was unrecognizable. Masses of students with knit beanies, ripped jeans, worn converse and flannel shirts claimed the familiar college eatery for the night. Excitement increased in anticipation for the music that would soon overtake the room. Green wristbands were passed around, the tech assistants finished their wiring and girls in high-waisted pants and pigtails flocked to the stage as the lights dimmed. It was clear that the night was about to officially start.
Doubts and existential crises of identity do not sneak up on us. They live and breathe around us, humming and whispering in the air. They weigh down on every breath that we inhale, and every particle of air we move through. Though, sanity dictates that we learn to exist without ever being cognizant of their eternally patient presence. How would we find the drive to keep looking for meaning and doing things we believe matter if navigating each day felt akin to swimming with an anchor? Cracks do appear though, and with the persistence of a toxic fog those paralyzing doubts slither in.
The highest temperature in Madison reached 36 degrees Saturday and 72 degrees Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Madison’s weather can vary wildly but its climate shows more predictable trends.
Madrid, London, Paris and Brussels…will it ever end? Last Tuesday, innocent civilians in Belgium were terrorized as horrifying attacks killed dozens in a Brussels airport and a subway station.
Wisconsin is expected to hire Tony Granato as its next head coach, according to USCHO.com and ESPN’s John Buccigross.
I am pleased to report that a number of predictions I had regarding my first day of South by Southwest proved to be absolutely true, the first being that my first day at SXSW would be a total emotional overload. I saw several of my favorite current artists in a time span of about three hours, dancing without any regard for my energy capacity or physical well-being.
