You’re perched atop Vilas Hall on an edge of the rooftop. The campus sprawls out beneath you, stray pedestrians going about their day. A perceptive woman notices you. The two of you wave, and then the woman returns to her business. It takes a while, but when classes end you’re still up there. The doors open and the sidewalks start to fill. Give it about 30 seconds. Then, after the crowds of people make it difficult to see the sidewalk below you, take the pebble you brought with you and throw it.

Farms are a central and integral piece of Wisconsin culture. Families have owned and operated their farms for generations, passing down stories, tradition and trade. In today’s day of technology, however, the art of operating a successful and profitable farm has changed.

Over the weekend, various theaters on the Madison campus played a part in the sixth annual “Tales from Planet Earth” film festival, aiming to bring concepts, concerns and discussion on the environment to movies — perhaps one of the most publicly accessible mediums of the modern age. The festival covers various topics each year, shifting between interdependent themes of hope, justice, belief, futures and environmental soundings. More often than not, these films are about humanity’s connectivity with nature as opposed to its inherent capacity to fulfill these ideas.

In nearly every moment of my free time, I find myself searching for the best new music. That task proves to get even more complicated when summer rolls around. Filled to the brim with an endless supply of radiant party-anthems, moody records fit for a breezy night-time stroll and albums to fit nearly every other type of feeling, it can be hard to find the gems sprinkled throughout.

The thing is- a really awful thinghappened, but listening to the wayair moves through your lungs as Ilay on your chest makes everythingstill for a moment.I would rather listen to the blood move through your veinsthan do most things. My time is yours even when it’s not.-maybe that’s tragedy; I don’t know.Maybe it’s tragedy to think that Idon’t want to think about what happened;but I do want to remember your lips. And the way they felt on minebefore they were bruised.

On his debut album in 2015, Brooklyn MC Joey Bada$$ rapped, “Always drop hot s--t / Toroidal Flow keep constant / And I won't stop 'til I reach Christ Conscious.” With his latest project, ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$, he’s still dropping hot shit, and he’s one step closer to fully understanding how the world, and more specifically, America, works.

Like the terms and services agreement on the iTunes Store, a disclaimer: I’ve been reporting on the Minnesota-based indie pop band Hippo Campus for over a year-and-a-half. Call me mundane and monotonous, but repeated coverage and concerts provides the chance to see how the group has changed since the release of their first two EPs in 2015.

When Michael Penn II was nine years old, he had his first sip of alcohol. Mistaking his father’s glass of Hennessy in the fridge for a glass of Coke, the young Penn confidently took a sip of the dark beverage. The moment it touched his lips, he realized the mistake he had made and spit it back into the glass.

As a junior here at UW-Madison, you would think that I have experienced the majority of activities that are classified as typically ‘Madtown’. Stayed for the fifth quarter at Camp Randall, check. Eaten late night Mac n’ Cheese pizza at Ian’s, check. Dove into Lake Mendota in early fall and realized that the water is freezing, check. There was, however, one thing that most people do as a freshman that I had yet to experience. That was late night skating at the Shell. Every Thursday, the Shell offers skating for students. Now that I have skated there (it’s still skating even though I was attached to the wall the entire time, right?), I would absolutely recommend bundling up and trekking to the Shell for some icy fun for all ages (18-22 to be specific).

2017 marks the beginning of a new period filled with uncertainty and anxiety for countless Americans across the country. The past year and a half showcased the rise of a prolific businessman and reality television star to the most powerful position in the world. Not only has Donald Trump been the most controversial presidential candidate ever, but at a more basic level, it seems that he values his personal goals over those of the country he now leads.
