Let me preface this, the opener to my trifecta of dying-columnist gasps, by saying I make no secret of the fact that I really, really don't like children.
Taser probes may not be intentionally fired at the face, head, neck or groin unless deadly force would be justified, the Madison Police Department announced Monday.
\Sin City's"" theatrical release Friday might open the door for future adaptations from graphic novels.
A film with the nerve to take a stance on an issue is certainly difficult to find these days. Often Hollywood films will choose to address one of the day's hot topics by putting it in the background of a traditional plot, such as a love story or mystery, instead of placing the issue in the forefront. \The Gatekeeper,"" director John Carlos Frey's feature film debut, is a truly independent labor of love that unapologetically puts emphasis on the issue at hand instead of shoehorning it into a supporting role.
The Wisconsin Badgers (11-5 Big Ten, 20-7 overall) held off a furious comeback by the Purdue Boilermakers (3-13, 7-20), who trailed by as many as 24 points in the first half, to win 64-52 Saturday at the Kohl Center.
\Golly, Sandra, you've grown up really crazy"" Eisley lead singer Stacy DuPree sings midway through Room Noises, Eisley's major label debut, and the sentiment certainly applies to the band members as well.
You are getting sleepy ... very sleepy ... your eyelids are getting heavy ... when I snap my fingers, you will be completely asleep.

Struggling to both monitor the icy sidewalk and let the flickering stars inspire me, it's just another 2 a.m. journey back to Dayton Street alone.
As the gates open on round two of the Taxpayers' Bill of Rights debate, it has become increasingly in vogue for TABOR proponents to use Colorado, the native soil of both TABOR and myself, as an exhibit of TABOR's success and popularity. TABOR is an initiative that is designed to strictly cap state revenue through the adaptation of a constitutional amendment. In 1992, Colorado became, and has since remained, the only state in the union to put TABOR into law. Leading the TABOR charge at home is state Rep. Frank Lasee, R-Green Bay.
The Wisconsin women's basketball team stunned No. 25 Iowa 88-78 Sunday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Badgers (3-7 Big Ten, 9-11 overall) were carried by junior guard Ashley Josephson's career-high 29 points. Iowa (4-6 Big Ten, 15-6 overall) carried a 9-1 record at home into the game.
The process of making meat has never been a particularly glamorous way of making ends meet, but 30 years ago meatpackers could expect to be entitled to their part of the American dream. Strong unions successfully lobbied for better pay and working conditions and meatpackers made enough to raise families in a home they owned. But times change-corporate agriculture behemoths like ConAgra and Tyson bought up their lesser peers and strong-armed unions into acquiescence as the pay and conditions of the industry progressively deteriorated.
Three of the most visually appealing films in the past decade-Ang Lee's \Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"" and Zhang Yimou's ""Hero"" and ""House of Flying Daggers""-are the benchmark efforts in a relatively new genre known as the sensitive wire-fu action extravaganza.
Since 1996 Capcom's Resident Evil series has reigned as king of horror gaming. Now the biggest name in survival horror is back, and \Resident Evil 4"" gives the series the reinvention it sorely needs.
It is difficult enough to find a reliable role model these days, but for those of us looking to celebrities for inspiration, it is nearly impossible. A number of recent events have overshadowed the noteworthy positive characteristics of a handful of athletes and artists, as instances of drug use, profanity and vulgar antics continue to rise to the surface. The build-up of such incidents has led to the punishment of many celebrities, but where does that leave the fans?
The vast majority of legendary director Mike Nichols' films explore the nuances of relationships and sexual behavior, from 1966's \Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"" to his recent HBO work (""Angels in America,"" ""Wit""). Hell, even ""What Planet Are You From?"" used Garry Shandling's humming alien penis to shed some insight on the tricky nature of relationships So it comes as no surprise that his latest is another seriocomic look at the trials and tribulations of love. But ""Closer,"" the star-studded adaptation of Patrick Marber's controversial play, is a forceful, incisive dramedy akin to a Neil LaBute movie without the stilted dialogue; it is a piercing, vibrant piece of work that is one of this year's most notable cinematic accomplishments.
The No. 23 Wisconsin Badgers kept the Big Ten alive for one more day in college basketball's ACC/Big Ten Challenge with their 69-64 victory over Maryland Tuesday night, but the Atlantic Coast Conference pulled off the victory, winning seven of the nine games, the same total as last year. The win helped the ACC remain undefeated in the Challenge improving the ACC's record to 6-0.
