INDIANAPOLIS — After Bo Ryan retired Dec. 15, Wisconsin won its first game with Greg Gard as interim head coach eight days later. Three days after Gard was named its head coach, and two days after he was formally introduced in front of family, friends and his team at a lively Nicholas-Johnson Pavilion, the Badgers fell to Nebraska in their first game in the Big Ten Tournament.

No. 1 Wisconsin (10-0-0 WCHA 14-0-0 overall) upended the Lindenwood Lions (1-3-2 CHA, 3-9-2 overall) in Madison by taking away a pair of physical victories this past Friday and Sunday. The Badgers resumed their record-breaking start to the season and continued to impress, both offensively and defensively.

Last Friday, when Western Illinois’ Garret Covington hit the game-winning free throws in the Leathernecks’ 69-67 win over the Badgers, every Wisconsin player, coach, fan and employee in and around the Kohl Center was stunned as well as heartbroken by what they had just witnessed. A team projected by Summit League coaches to finish last in its conference had just knocked off a team that had been to two consecutive Final Fours.

Touring with Kelly Clarkson would probably be the peak of many artist’s year. For the a cappella quintet Pentatonix, this was merely another step closer to the top. As if a platinum-selling Christmas album isn’t enough, Pentatonix’s new, self-titled albumhas reached no. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 charts in just 10 days after its October 16 release. As many a cappella albums go, Pentatonix includes fantastic covers of popular chart-toppers including Jason Derulo’s “If I Ever Fall In Love” and OMI’s “Cheerleader.”

For the average college student, there are few elements of daily life that take priority over everything else. There is one glorious activity that many may underplay in casual conversation, or say that they don’t have time for it or are too devoted to their studies. The simple answer is that they are lying. Binge-watching television keeps college students afloat and happy. Without the comforting glow of Netflix, college students in this day and age would probably panic and die of withdrawal. In this column, I will attempt to provide you readers with samples of my type of fix; my insights on what I find to be the most fascinating, addicting, engaging and, most importantly, binge-worthy television that is available today. Because without online streaming, what is college?
