Max isn't like other kids. He's introverted, aggressive and
moody. Despite learning advanced astronomy in class, he still hides
in blanket forts in his room, issuing commands to his army of
stuffed animals. He moves from happily throwing snowballs to crying
silently at his departing sister to destroying her room in a
furious tantrum. And despite this, he is a king.

Every year when October rolls around, certain things start to
happen in Madison. Perhaps most notably, the weather drops
approximately 25 degrees within a 48-hour period and Uggs reappear
in full force.

The Williamson-Marquette area came alive over the weekend as the
32nd annual Willy Street Fair showed residents a good time amid
Madison's near east-side neighborhoods.

The UW Cinematheque kicked off its schedule for the fall
semester this past weekend with two films generally regarded as
cinematic masterpieces, though of very different species: Vincente
Minnelli's iconic musical ""Meet Me in St. Louis"" (1944) and the
Harold Lloyd silent comedy ""The Kid Brother"" (1927).

Hello Badgers! Welcome back to a new semester. I'm excited to be
back, filling this section with commentary on the culinary world. A
great thing about Wisconsin is the array of seasonal foods that are
best enjoyed fresh. Unfortunately, most of our seasons are filled
with cold. However, from June through August we can finally break
out the shorts, swimming suits and sunglasses and enjoy the freshly
grown goodies.

For as long as cars have raced around in the NASCAR circuit, the
argument about whether or not it is a sport has also raced around
in discussions and forums.

Im standing in the produce section on a Thursday evening, having
made it only about 15 feet past the co-op's entrance, and am
anxiously running over my roughly 6,300 options while my right hand
drifts slowly back and forth over a bin of apples, like one of
those metal detectors employed by elderly men at the beach. I have,
through practice, learned to handle most of the grocery store
without too much trouble, largely by buying the same 20 or so items
each week while being careful not to overturn shelves of bee pollen
or whole wheat ginger snaps as I zip between my chosen brands of
breakfast cereal and tortilla chips in as straight a line as
possible.'""

It's incredible how the memory of an extraordinary meal can stay
with us for years. Food is memorable because we experience it with
one of the most vibrant and pleasurable of our senses - taste. Most
often, we share an incredible meal with other people, and this adds
greatly to the memories that surround it.

With today's economy, eating on a budget is the latest trend.
Dining in is the new dining out, and a late-night snack has turned
into eating munchies from the pantry rather than buying a
comforting $3 slice of Ian's pizza.

As I sit here in the College Library second-floor computer lab
and stare out onto the lake, it's hard not to get a little sad
thinking this will be my last column of my run as Sweet-n-Sour
Kraut. I'm so lucky to have a blueberry scone from Open Book Café
here to comfort me through this difficult time.

The Wisconsin women's basketball team ran out to a 27-9 lead and

One week from now, I can rest easy. One week from now, I won't
have midterms, papers, quizzes, labs or any other stresses in my
life. I'll be curled on the couch, in a partially vegetative state
in a tryptophan-induced coma and enjoying some of my favorite
Thanksgiving traditions. I wake up for the Macy's Thanksgiving
parade, then flip back and forth between the Westminster Dog Show
and watching the Detroit Lions lose to whatever team they're
playing. However, one tradition that has yet to catch on in my
family is the Thanksgiving movie.

While there are many things we can be thankful for this
Thanksgiving, food is undoubtedly biting at the top of the list.
Consider even how much you would really love the Thanksgiving
holiday without the emphasis on the Thanksgiving meal.

When in conversation at a bar or party, I'll sometimes encounter
an awkward pause when the other person begins to rummage around in
their purse or front pockets before producing some object of deep
personal significance, a cherished photograph of a newborn
relative, say, or a cell phone with a touch-screen display. Look at
my nephew""/""Listen to my ringtone,"" they insist.
