The last three meetings between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Iowa Hawkeyes have been absolute wars. Many expected this year’s matchup to be no different, as the Hawkeyes came off an impressive performance against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Still, Wisconsin ultimately won and improved to 10-0, the best start in program history, primarily resulting from superb defensive play.

SCENE: We see Michigan Head Football Coach Jim Harbaugh bellied up at a bar. It’s late on a weeknight, and the bar is nearly empty, save for a regular huddled in one of the booths in the back and a pool shark practicing his game. There’s the intermittent crack of pool balls as Harbaugh nurses his drink.

Kygo released his new album, Kids in Love, Nov. 3 after teasing with several singles throughout the year. Despite having several notable features, Kygo — originally a producer from Norway — fails to bring any originality or inspiration throughout the album.

The third line on a hockey team is sometimes the most critical, and is often the most overlooked. The first two lines are on the ice to score, while the fourth-liners are tasked with bringing energy and grit. Third-line forwards often have to play both roles, and the teams whose third lines do it best typically win.

Madison students flocked to the Kohl Center Monday night where almost 40 of them were legitimately excited to see DJ Khaled perform thanks to Mentos Gum™. As a result of the confusing but probably wildly successful campaign with Madison student Sam, enough Mentos Gum™ was distributed for free around campus for Mentos™ to sponsor a free DJ Khaled concert.

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. — The most important member of the No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers’ defense in their 24-10 win over Illinois might have been the guy who didn’t play a single snap.

Fans of the Boston Celtics mourned Wednesday morning after the Boston Celtics management announced that their star forward, Gordon Hayward, had been put down by team doctors after breaking his leg. In the wake of his euthanization, Hayward’s four-year, $128 million contract has been rendered null and void. The Celtics management have reportedly spent the leftover contract money on Gulfstream jets.

Being from SEC country, where there are three teams called the Tigers and two called the Bulldogs, I always appreciated the Big Ten’s unique nicknames and mascots. Almost all of the nicknames have some local historical reason and there is no doubt that there is intense pride in your local college’s mascot.

For the first 15 minutes of their 17-9 win over the Purdue Boilermakers (1-2 Big Ten, 3-3 overall), the No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers (3-0, 6-0) played like an undefeated powerhouse rolling over the rest of their conference opponents.

Week four of college football did not disappoint as many of the top teams in the nation got their first taste of conference action and, with it, their first true tests of the season. Away with the cupcakes! The first week of conference play served as a measuring stick for some, to see where their season might be taking them, while for others it was simply a stop on the road. Here are some recaps of some of the biggest games from last week.

To the untrained eye, there is a considerable lacuna between Wisconsin football’s on-field success and its recruiting achievements. While many of its peers atop the college football heap — and even various schools that haven’t come close to equaling its consistently impressive year-to-year performance — continue to compile recruiting classes chock-full of four and five-star recruits, the Badgers have continued to plod along, gladly focusing on in-star talent and unheralded prospects whom many other traditional powers overlook.

A sustained air of anticipation filled Overture Hall on Saturday night where, mere feet from the stage, jazz legend Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (JLCO) tuned and tested an array of iconic orchestral elements. Roughly 2,000 attendees erupted into applause as the lights dimmed to greet the opening act: the Badger High School Jazz Ensemble, based out of Lake Geneva. The group performed two brief renditions of the big band jazz style, featuring solos from the bells of trumpets, saxophones and gentle touches of the piano. The group holds a boastful record of three trips to New York City, where the Essentially Ellington jazz competition selects 15 bands from a national pool to perform. Matching the tenacity of the ensemble, the crowd followed in traditional jazz concert fashion, tossing a flurry of hollers, whoops and cheers to the end of each solo. The brief, 20-minute opening act demanded the adoration of jazz patrons in the hall that night, and they earned it.
