There are films that come around every now and then that seem to hit all the right notes and impact you in multiple ways. Very few times have I seen a film that can have the audience laughing out loud in one moment, and feeling emotional or sad just 20 seconds later.

Basketball season is back as the Badgers prepare to officially kick things off on the road against St. Mary’s on Tuesday, November 4. Wisconsin began play this year with an 82-53 victory over UW La Crosse during in an exhibition game Friday night. However, although the Badgers took care of business Friday night, so did the rest of the Big Ten conference.

Last Halloween, as well as the Halloween prior, 7-year-old Gordan Simpson dressed up as the blue Power Ranger for Halloween. This is no surprise given that Simpson is a big Power Rangers fan, obsessive some might say. Simpson owns 19 different Power Rangers action figures, has power ranger posters in his room and even has a power rangers school backpack. In fact, Simpson can even be found from time to time to be fake fighting with his friends as he pretends to be a Power Ranger.

Music fans from near and far learned to dance in the rain at this year’s Freakfest. The annual Halloween-themed music festival in downtown Madison — this year, held on Saturday Oct. 26th — saw constant showers throughout the duration of the event.

Earlier this month, the UW homecoming committee published a video which sparked one of the most interesting controversies I’ve seen in my 3-and-a-half years as a student here. Admittedly though, that wasn’t my first thought when I saw the headlines – that thought was closer to: “There’s a video for that? I don’t think I know what homecoming is.” And indeed, I didn’t. “Homecoming” occupied a space in my brain loosely linked to memories of toilet paper and bad dances, so perhaps you can imagine my confusion when I found out it wasn’t the white people who were outraged that they were the only ones in it.

In my experience as a journalist, I have always seen art through the lens of human connection. A single painting can have the potential to connect stories, emotions, colors and people in a room. Yet, I had never thought about the connection that modern art can lend to traditional art.

Rock County Christian School is a private college preparatory school in Beloit, Wisconsin. It teaches kindergarten through 12th grade and is operated by a nonprofit, interdenominational, evangelical Christian parent support organization. It was hard to envision the No. 6 Wisconsin Badgers (11-4 overall, 7-0 Big 10) being pushed to five sets by the No. 17 Illinois Fighting Illini (9-7 overall, 4-3 Big 10) going into the night. When the Illini won sets two and three, however, Wisconsin’s spotless conference record was very much in doubt.

It’s been six years since we said goodbye to Jesse Pinkman, the guilt-ridden, meth-dealing anti-hero of the hit series “Breaking Bad.” Last we saw of Jesse, he and his partner-in-crime Walter White seemed to make amends before taking down the show’s final villains. Pinkman was last seen smiling and laughing as he drove away, leaving his life of crime behind him as he headed towards a new life.
