The 2018 Wisconsin Badgers have a unique luxury when it comes to their incoming freshmen: If all goes according to plan, they may not be needed at all. The coaching staff, led by head coach Paul Chryst, has emphasized development and deference to the best interests of the team, which creates an ideal situation for upperclassmen to pay their dues and earn playing time as they progress. Even some of the program’s most highly touted recruits are expected to redshirt their freshman years to learn and mature. Yet in recent seasons, some players have proven to be too valuable to keep off the field, including Jonathan Taylor and Danny Davis in 2017 and Quintez Cephus and Bradrick Shaw in 2016. This year’s freshmen class, too, may have some players who will contribute sooner rather than later.

Travis Scott, hip-hop’s most popular AutoTune crooner, returns with ASTROWORLD, and he’s locked and loaded with dark beats and bars. Scott has seen glimmers of genius spread throughout his two studio albums and wide catalogue of guest features on other artists’ work, but both Rodeo and Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight had forgettable low points that dragged their respective albums’ quality down. He hit a recent low this past December with Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho, a collaborative project with Migos’ Quavo, which felt like a creative dud after stretching his wings (literally) across his own albums and guest features.

The Academy Awards is something near and dear to my heart. I watch it every year, eagerly consuming articles, talk shows and general awards buzz to help make my predictions for who will take home Hollywood’s most prestigious prize. It’s my Super Bowl, and I love every second of it.

My friends and I are thinking about taking a big vacation together this year. The idea is to go on a road trip, most likely around the West — California, maybe Oregon and Washington, places like that. None of us have planned a big road trip before, though, so I’m not super confident that we know what we’re doing. Are there any common problems we should watch out for? Do the experts have any tips on planning a big road trip?

“IV is the sum of the I, II, and III.” That was the driving thought behind the fourth installment of the Eaux Claires music festival, according to the festival’s homepage. In years past, co-creators Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner have used the weekend in the woods to shine a light on emerging artists and give fans the opportunity to see influential artists of a massive scale.

I could use some advice. I’m a college senior taking my last semester of classes. Once I finish, I’ll be able to graduate in the fall, just one semester behind the rest of my graduating class. I’ll be graduating with a degree in sociology.

Someday, I’d like to buy a house. That’s because I know that buying a house is more cost-effective than renting a house or apartment--plus, I just think it would be nice to own my own space and be able to renovate it and stuff like that. I know that part of the reason this is a good idea is that my home can increase in value over time. Except, I don’t understand why that is.

Though the event that prompted McAdams v. Marquette occurred in 2014, the Wisconsin Supreme Court case it led to last week has the making of a typical story in 2018: ideological charge, selective interpretation of the facts, and peculiar characters.

Every college student - or any human being, rather - knows the struggle of waking up to an alarm every morning. The invention of the snooze button prevents an alarm from its actual purpose of waking you up at the time you actually need to be awake, but instead allows you to procrastinate the activity you need to be doing, the purpose many recent technologies were invented for. One student’s experience demonstrates the pitfalls of relying on such a button, so graciously shared with Cardinal Correspondents as a cautionary tale.

Griffin Barela has quickly proven himself to be an irregular freshman for the Wisconsin men’s golf team. Reliably scoring for the Badgers in 88 percent of their rounds, Barela recently put it all together at the D.A. Weibring Invitational (hosted by Illinois State) where he held on for a final round 74 in biting 26 degree weather — good enough for the first individual Badgers win since 2009. All the while, Barela maintains the second-lowest scoring average on the team, 73.92, behind only junior Jordan Hahn.

“God of War” was one of those series back on PlayStation 2 that delighted in being an oddball and benefited from it. It sits up there with “Silent Hill,” “Ico” and “Shadow of the Colossus” as one of those staples that was willing to be a bit more experimental than its contemporaries, playing with mechanics other developers hadn’t before.
