If playing in close games was in style, Wisconsin would be leaders of the trend. In yet another overtime game, the Badgers pulled out a gritty win, as they took down the high-powered Iowa Hawkeyes on the road, 78-75. Now boasting a 2-0 Big Ten record, the Badgers are finally cracking the AP Top 25, picking up the No. 22 rank after Sunday’s win.

After another dominant season, including a 21-game win streak, the Wisconsin Badgers were eliminated from the NCAA tournament by the No. 2 Pittsburgh Panthers on Saturday, after defeating No. 11 Penn State on Friday.

For every step Wisconsin (7-11-0, 1-9-0 Big Ten) has taken forward this season, it seems they’ve taken two steps back. The weekend series against No. 3 Minnesota (15-5-0 10-2-0) was no exception, with the Golden Gophers dismantling the Badgers one week after UW’s promising series-split against Michigan.

There truly is nothing like Big Ten basketball. So far in this young season, the Big Ten is shaping up to be one of the best conferences in the country, as it is year after year. Going into Tuesday night’s game against Maryland, the Badgers were considered near the bottom of the conference. But, after upsetting the No. 13 Terrapins 64-59 at the Kohl Center, it’s safe to say Wisconsin is ready to defend last season’s regular season title.

Badger football fans were shocked on Nov. 27 by the announcement that former Cincinnati Bearcats coach Luke Fickell will be the successor to Paul Chryst. Though most assumed the job would go to interim head coach Jim Leonhard, Fickell has been welcomed with open arms in exchange for taking advantage of his appetite.
