While the hockey replay review system exists to ensure that each
goal in the NCAA and the NHL is legal, there still exist some
blatant errors in the judgment of referees in the NCAA and video
goal judges in the NHL.

UW men's basketball head coach Bo Ryan has not lost very many
games this season, but he did lose a bet with the media last
Saturday after junior forward Marcus Landry's 21 points gave UW
their fifth different 20-plus scorer in five straight games.

As the Kohl Center celebrates its 10-year anniversary this
month, the memories of past arenas in Wisconsin hockey become more
distant. Prior to the opening, Wisconsin hockey called the Dane
County Coliseum (now known as the Alliant Energy Center) its home.
The Kohl Center opened January 1998, and on Oct. 3 of that year,
Wisconsin hockey was finally ready for its first Kohl Center
matchup. Unfortunately, the Badgers suffered a 2-1 loss to Notre
Dame. Although life at the Kohl Center began with a loss, the
future held many memorable wins for Wisconsin.

It's been nearly a month and I am just starting to figure it
out.

In typical Wisconsin-Northwestern fashion, defense was the theme
Saturday night at the Kohl Center as the top-scorers on each team
were non-factors.

Iowa fans Packed the House"" Sunday to celebrate the 25th

There was no question the Badgers were the bigger team Saturday,
but it did not take long to realize that Marquette was the
scrappier team as the Golden Eagles ended the UW men's basketball
team's 28-game home winning streak with an 81-76 victory.

As I write this, snow is plummeting to the ground faster than
you can put on your heavy-duty winter boots. Some people love the
snow - you know, the die-hards out on Bascom Hill with their
makeshift cafeteria-tray sleds the second a snowflake hits
pavement.

Students may pass stores and restaurants on State Street every
day, but they probably have no idea a Guinness World Record holder
is among them. Lovshack, the new calzone restaurant at 555 State
St., holds the record for the world's heaviest calzone. Despite
competition with the other new calzone restaurant in downtown
Madison, D.P. Dough, that weighs in as an impressive feat, taste
aside.

It has been said that politics is the only game for adults. The
recent budget stalemate at the state Capitol - a highly partisan
standoff resulting in Wisconsin's largest ever budget four months
overdue - begs the questions, Where are the adults? Where have all
the statesmen gone?

Between the excitement of traveling to a destination and the
anxiety concerning the traffic or flight schedules, there is a
component of travel many neglect until the night before departure.
Packing has long been a pest to some travelers. Hauling excess
baggage is an additional nuisance but with a few easy steps one can
increase efficiency and decrease stress.

As their season grinds to a close, the Wisconsin men's soccer
team will look back on a term that promised much at the outset but
ultimately ended up in disappointment.

As dusk makes its home in the mid-November sky, the tin hum of
fluorescent lights in College Library is replaced by a chorus of
sips. In the café, students survey the fridge, stocked with cans
of Redbull, while waiting anxiously in line, anticipating their cup
of foamy stimulation. In a booth, a girl adorned in gray sweatpants
and a white sweatshirt hides beneath her book. Her hair casually
fans her eyes, masking the sleepiness beneath them. Hands
restlessly grazing her empty coffee mug, she slumps down further
into the cushions. Amid workload, stress and liquid energy, she is
far from alone.

For one last fall afternoon, UW seniors ran onto the field at
Camp Randall Stadium for one final chance to play football in front
of 80,000-plus screaming Badger faithful.
