Psychic by DARKSIDE takes you on a mystical journey through time and space. I never had been one to enjoy music without lyrics, but this album has a way of sucking you in and slowing you down, making you forget about what you once thought music should be.

Last week, on a whim, I decided to start reading “The Satanic Verses” by Salman Rushdie. Though it has never been a book high on my “to read” list, I took the plunge when I chanced upon it in the library stacks.

It’s officially summertime because nights at the UW Memorial Union are once again filled with live music from both local and nationally touring acts.

It’s early Saturday morning, and I am not wearing a jacket. In Madison, that is already cause for celebration. There is water in the air and sunlight is shattering into millions of tiny beams, illuminating Capitol square as I approach it. It’s a gorgeous, late-April Saturday, and I am on the tip of State Street, heading to the farmers’ market.

So, here we are again. Temperatures have finally climbed higher than 40 degrees, the sun is out and tables and chairs are back outside State Street’s beloved restaurants. During this past particularly frigid winter, going to get food was less about the best eating experience and more about finding the closest possible place to grab food so frozen noses and hands could be avoided. But it’s time to venture back outside and check out the best warm-weather eating experiences Madison has to offer.

Weather disasters such as floods and tornadoes can take a huge toll on people and their possessions. The 2011 tornado outbreak in the southern United States, for example, killed 348 people and made the record books as the largest tornado outbreak in history.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Wisconsin (23-12 overall) found itself unable to score down the stretch and watched as Mississippi (27-8) finished on a 27-10 run over the final 11:35 to pull off a 57-46 upset in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Wisconsin freshman forward Sam Dekker has slowly worked his way into the conversation for Big Ten freshman of the year with four straight games in double figures. But after a career-high 19 points Tuesday against Nebraska, Dekker not only has himself squarely in the driver’s seat for that honor, but may just be positioned for sixth man of the year as well. Checking in just six minutes into the game with the score tied at 8, Dekker helped the Badgers explode on a 24-2 run that erased what had been a 12-11 Nebraska lead and replaced it with a 35-14 UW advantage.

I decided to watch the Oscars Sunday and thought they started at 7 rather than 7:30 p.m. This was a brutal mistake, as I was subjected to catch most of the Red Carpet show, which made me want to tear my eyeballs out. I guess the consensus was that Jennifer Lawrence was the best dressed. That’s the same Jennifer Lawrence who later tripped over her mountain of a dress and faceplanted on the steps when she accepted her Best Actress award, perfectly illustrating the absurdity of the Red Carpet show. If I’m ever invited to the Oscars, I’m going to show up in a T-shirt and jeans just to lampoon the Red Carpet show. And then when the TV host asks me, “Who are you wearing? Dior? Armani?” I’d be all like, “The hell if I know. Probably some 10-year-old kid from a sweatshop in Indonesia.”

A few weeks ago, a friend showed me an article regarding the Frequency’s ban on hip-hop shows, and I was flabbergasted at the level of disrespect hip-hop was being shown by the city and The Frequency. But looking more into that specific case has made me realize who hip-hop fans allow the genre’s representatives to be affects how the public views hip-hop. These representatives are especially important after events like the shooting at The Frequency which prompted the bar’s hip-hop ban.

I hear it time after time: “College basketball’s regular season is irrelevant” or “Nothing matters until March”. Though I am usually successful in restraining myself from the onslaught of dispute I would like to unleash in response, the assertion continues to bother me. Sure, March Madness is fun, but such fun takes nothing away from the importance of the conference schedule. So please don’t change the tournament, because it is great as it is. As any coach or player would tell you, those advocating for such a change on the grounds that it renders the regular season irrelevant are completely off base.

Those looking to know whether the worst of flu season has passed may be disappointed to find out that the most predictable thing about flu is that it’s unpredictable, according to Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

President Barack Obama made history last weekend as the first two-term president to be sworn into office a total of four times. His progressive speech called to attention the issues of gay rights, environmental awareness and immigration reform. Throughout his career, Obama has modeled his public persona after critical political personalities of the 1960s. This repetitive illusion creates implications of not only how he is forming his legacy, but the direction in which he wants to drive the country. Obama’s pledge to continue that reform gives us hope that progressive action will be taken once again, and that America will be a leader in social change.
