When the Wisconsin men's basketball team takes to the court
Sunday night against Indiana, playing to win will be playing to
stay alive in the NCAA tournament hunt. The Badgers (9-8 Big Ten,
18-11 overall), who compiled an impressive five-game winning streak
to start off the month of February, will need to keep the Hoosiers
(1-16, 6-23) at bay to avoid dropping their third game in the last
four contests as they end the regular season.

""Today, education is perhaps the most important function of
state and local governments. Compulsory school attendance laws and
the great expenditures for education both demonstrate our
recognition of the importance of education to our democratic
society ... It is the very foundation of good citizenship ... In
these days, it is doubtful that any child may reasonably be
expected to succeed in life if he is denied the opportunity of an
education. Such an opportunity, where the state has undertaken to
provide it, is a right which must be made available to all on equal
terms.""

What is going on in the free world? We knew that financial
systems were getting hit hard; however, the nationalization of
banks, devaluing of the dollar, and breeding of irresponsibility
seem contrary to the aid the nation requires.

I'm a PC, so as you would expe-ct, I get hate-crimed a lot by
the Mac-jority. To date, I've had my bike tires slashed five times,
three bricks thrown through my bedroom window with notes telling me
to Burn in Dell,"" and seven girlfriends' fathers who've fired
shotguns in my direction after discovering their daughters were
necking with ""Windows wiper."" It's getting gal-dang ridiculous. I
got kicked out of the Velvet the other night just because some
coastie hussy ratted me out to the bouncer for being Dellish. You
should have seen the look on her face. Pure hate. People like to
say the civil rights movement ended with Obama's election, but at
one of the whitest public universities in America, we've just found
a new way to channel our proclivity for prejudice:
computerism.

I must admit, as a math major, a little bit of me dies when I
hear someone say, I hate math."" What did math ever do to you? In
fact, math may be one of the most helpful and useful skills that a
person can learn in life. You use math every day, whether you are
purchasing that late-night cup of coffee at the library or
calculating just how long you have until your next class. Even
cavemen used math to divide rations for the day. Math is basic
logic hardwired into our brains and is the inquisitive nature of
the human persona that fuels what we call science.

New in Town"" is the perfect film to enjoy if you aren't in the
mood to think. The plot is simple and very predictable, and even
though you will probably know how the film is going to end after
the first 20 minutes, it's entertaining to watch the romance and
character developments unfold.

its contract with Russell Athletics, which previously had a

With the Black Keys, Dan Auerbach brought blues to the
mainstream. On his solo project, Auerbach brings the mainstream to
blues. That does not suggest that the Black Keys were the first
blues band to have an impact on the mainstream, nor does it suggest
that Keep it Hid is the beacon of blues folk. Rather, it
signifies a new focus.

Chancellor Biddy Martin has conducted four brainstorming
sessions since December to hear what students and others have to
say concerning possible ways the administration could save money. A
plethora of ideas came forward, some easily attainable and some
far-fetched. The one thing the ideas have in common thus far is
none has been implemented in any useful capacity.
