When a team like Wisconsin lets a small conference opponent to
hang around for nearly 30 minutes in the Kohl Center, crisp passing
and good execution are not expected hallmarks of the game.

As the onslaught of finals and term papers signals the end of
the semester, it also signals the beginning of a monthlong hiatus
for this column. This is a shame, because late December is the best
time of the year for films, as studios release their Oscar
contenders to keep them fresh in voters' minds. Because I won't be
publishing another column until late January, a mere two weeks
before the Oscar ceremony, I'm going to discuss some of the films
which are generating the most Oscar buzz and films you should
consider checking out over the long winter break.

When I first started nude modeling, one of my hopes was that the
hours I would spend standing naked in front of strangers would
teach me something important. What that was exactly, I didn't have
any particular idea, beyond the hope that - whatever form the
lesson took - it would allow me to appear wise.

Wisconsin cross country runner Landon Peacock thought that if
the Badgers' Big Ten title streak was ever going to end while he
was on the team, it would have happened this year. Since Wisconsin
had its two top returners struggling with injuries early in the
season, two good runners transferring out and a new head coach, it
appeared Michigan had a decent shot at upsetting the Badger
dynasty, especially at the Wolverines' home course.

Believe it or not, I used to want to be a serious person, who
did serious things, set serious goals and seriously kind of met
them. Instead, I seriously stare at the TV for eight hours a day.
When you take 12 credits and only go to class two days a week, you
have some serious time on your hands to seriously think. And
seriously, if you think about it and say seriously"" over and over
again, it seriously starts to sound weird. These are the things I
seriously thought about this Sunday on my couch, as I reflected on
the semester thus far.

This year's presidential election has been obsessed about and
analyzed by every media outlet in the world. Not wanting to be left
out, I've decided to use this week's column to analyze each
candidate's top 10 songs, as publicized by Blender magazine this
July.

Breaks during freshman and sophomore years of college are more
regressions back to high school selves than visits with old
friends.

My Big Toe and I have been through so much together - ice
skating lessons, ballet recitals and impromptu pick-up basketball
games at the park in junior high (when I had some cooked-up notion
that guys liked butch girls who were good at sports and wore
knee-length Bulls jerseys). The love my Big Toe and I have for each
other is strong, unconditional. He helps me walk, and I give him
love by occasionally washing him or having some weird lady rub him
at the salon.

Five true freshmen decorate the Wisconsin volleyball roster this
season. One in particular has shined brightest, and it's not solely
because of her skills on the court.
