After Thanksgiving “break,” which is just another excuse for professors to pile on the homework, comes everyone’s favorite time of year. And no, I’m not talking about holidays — although I wish I was. I’m talking about hell week, cram week, frantically-trying-to-pull-my-life-together week. Or, in a calmer sense, finals week.

At bars, buying someone a drink carries a certain implication — at the very least it displays sexual interest, and at the most it can be an expectation of sexual interaction.

When Elsa Davids considered applying to UW-Madison as a high school senior from Albuquerque, N.M., she didn’t know much about the state she would be committing four years of her life to — and the impression of Wisconsin she got from the people around her wasn’t always positive.

“It’s that time of year again, and I can’t stand it,” stated freshman Max Dudley. “Being from southern California, you just don’t have these kinds of problems there.”

Field position isn’t a sexy stat, but it makes all the difference in a tight game where neither offense can consistently sustain long scoring drives.

The No. 6 Badgers (7-0 Big Ten, 10-0 overall) overcame a multitude of mistakes Saturday to stifle No. 25 Iowa 38-14 in a sloppy affair.

The Wisconsin Badgers were down a goal after 30 minutes to a team they had never beaten in their most important game of the season. The Maryland Terrapins had the Badgers’ number, and a 28th minute goal from junior forward Sebastian Elney had Wisconsin’s season hanging by a thread.

The Forward Theater Company kicked off its ninth annual season with Lauren Gunderson’s “I and You” at the Overture Center’s Playhouse Theater. The play opened on Thursday, Nov. 2 and will run until Nov. 19 and, trust me, this is a show you do not want to miss.

Every November, we all experience a similar routine. The alarm ruthlessly wakes us up, and after burrowing deeper into our warm and comfy beds, we look through the window to the sun hiding behind thick, gray clouds. The wind blows against the glass, as if some ghost is screaming. It is clear; winter has arrived. Wisconsin winter is so freezing that stepping out of the door requires a lot of courage. Although altering the temperature is not an option, there are many activities to try that can change a poor mood. Here are three things you can do to warm the heart in such cold weather.

Speedy Ortiz frontwoman Sadie Dupuis effused flower power on center stage Tuesday night. She wore a floral print top, a skirt and a flower pin in her hair, distancing her look from the dreary Madison weather. Her bright blue, bejeweled guitar stood out as it was fretted by Dupuis’s highlighter-orange and yellow nails. To her left, the black-and-blue-haired bassist wore black clothes and strummed with black nails, providing a stark contrast to the lead vocalist. A second guitarist and a drummer who provided backing vocals rounded out the indie quartet.

“Broad City” has done some really revolutionary things since its premiere in 2014. They’ve represented female sexuality in a bold and unapologetic way — they show vibrators on screen in a really normalizing way, rather than for shock value. This season, they’ve committed to bleeping Trump’s name out. “We just didn't want to share airtime. He's got enough and we also don't want to hear the word,” Ilana Glazer, co-creator and lead, explained over the summer on a press tour. They’ve also touched on topics such as depression, anxiety, sexual harassment and sexuality. But the most revolutionary representation, to me, is the way they depict Ilana and Lincoln’s non-monogamous relationship and break-up. It’s such a realistic depiction of modern dating, through all of its complications.

It’s been almost four years since Annie Clark, better known by her stage name St. Vincent, released her self-titled album. A critical darling, St. Vincent propelled her into national prominence; numerous publications listed it as one of the best albums of the year and gave St. Vincent her highest sales figures yet. With her fifth studio album, MASSEDUCTION, St. Vincent takes another bold step into her electropop psyche.

The Badgers, taking on another Big Ten opponent, continued their undefeated season with a 17-9 win over Purdue. Though suffering from some sloppy offensive plays, the Wisconsin defense was quick to recover the lost ground that resulted from the three turnovers. However, though there were some rough patches, the Wisconsin offense made a few timely plays on Saturday. Many of those chunk plays stemmed, yet again, from freshman running back Jonathan Taylor.

For freshman swimmer Ido Haber, his transition to competing at the Division I level halfway across the world from Kiryat Bialik, Israel was made easier thanks to his two and a half years of mandatory service in the Israeli Air Force. In training with the Air Force, Haber learned an incredibly important lesson — to learn to adapt.

In the past few years, the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational has established itself as the most competitive regular season meet in collegiate cross country and this year’s edition — with 20 of 30 ranked teams in the men’s race and 16 of 30 on the women’s side — was no different.

Aside from an upset in Minneapolis at the hands of the Maryland Terrapins last Saturday afternoon, the Big Ten had a pretty ho-hum slate of games in week five. Paul Chryst made halftime adjustments to beat Northwestern. Nebraska beat up on Illinois at home. Michigan State’s defense came to life against Iowa. Saquon Barkley padded his Heisman resume against Indiana. And, of course, Rutgers got thumped by No. 10 Ohio State. Pretty standard stuff. With enough games played to get a feel for each team, where does the conference stand going into week six?
