Columnist's note: Last year at this time, this space was used to
highlight Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema's responsibility for
his team's troubling season. In light of his performance this year,
it is only fair that the following is written.

Powerful running from sophomore running back John Clay and a
physical four-quarter defensive effort propelled Wisconsin to a
51-10 blowout victory in its regular season finale Saturday against
Hawaii.

As the mercury drops, most Wisconsinites dream of escaping to a
warm tropical locale and forgetting their responsibilities for a
bit.

Last week Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema argued that three of
his players deserved the three big individual awards in the Big
Ten; Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and
Freshman of the Year.

EVANSTON, Ill.—To say the Badger secondary had been an issue all
year would be an understatement.

EVANSTON, Ill.—With 42 seconds to go in Wisconsin's game against
Northwestern, the Badgers took possession at their own 20. Despite
trailing 33-31 when the drive started, Wisconsin's players were
confident their team could mount a quick scoring drive and steal a
win over the Wildcats despite a mistake-filled game.

The sense of urgency among Wisconsin football players heading
into last week's game against Michigan has not worn off quite yet,
as the Badgers prepare to travel to Evanston, Ill., Saturday to
take on Northwestern.

As tough as it was to watch my last Badger home football game
come and go, the harder part was watching the complete atrocity
that occurred in the fourth quarter. Yes, I know most folk were
thrilled to see the brave band member who proposed to his
girlfriend by having tubas march across the field with a message
that read, ""Marry me, Kayla."" Why am I not happy for them? Maybe
it's because I was planning on proposing to my girlfriend Sherry on
our two-week anniversary AT THE SAME GAME! I was so outraged that
he stole my idea that I wrote the culprit an angry letter. I
thought about mailing it, but then I realized I had no idea who he
was. So instead, I did the next logical option: I submitted it as a
column in a college newspaper. Here it is:

Head coach Bret Bielema only expressed satisfaction during his
weekly press conference Monday. His team is fresh off a performance
against Michigan that showed both the offensive and defensive might
of the Wisconsin football team. He also expressed excitement for
what the remainder of the 2009 season holds for his team.
(11/16/09 6:00am)
For most of the 2009 football season, the specter of 2008 has
been looming.

As the game clock hit zero to end Wisconsin's 45-24 rout of
Michigan Saturday, senior defensive end O'Brien Schofield could
finally breathe a sigh of relief and celebrate the victory.

When the Michigan Wolverines take the field at Camp Randall
Stadium Saturday, they won't be looking to shore up a resume for a
BCS berth or gearing up for a dynamic rivalry game with Ohio State.
No, on Saturday they will be fighting for their first FBS win since
September and their best chance for bowl eligibility.

For John Clay, it was as simple as a three carry, 52 yard
performance against the Michigan Wolverines in 2008. For Zach
Brown, it came in the form of a two touchdown, 250 yard massacre of
Minnesota in 2007 filling in for an injured P.J. Hill. For both
highly touted recruits, it was that breakthrough game where they
became less like an abstract scouting report and more like a true
contributor to the Badgers' backfield. For Montee Ball, it came
last week with 115 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Bloomington
that helped his team escape with a narrow 31-28 victory.

Coming off its most complete team performance and most
impressive win of the season a week ago against Purdue, the
Wisconsin football team had to squeak out a victory against Indiana
Saturday. Although the running attack for the Badgers was dominant
throughout, Wisconsin had trouble at times on defense, especially
containing big plays.
(11/10/09 6:00am)
On Saturday afternoon, junior wide receiver Maurice Moore had
one kickoff return for three yards against Indiana, which could
have been more if not for an illegal block in the back committed on
Moore's return.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Last week, the Badger defense dominated one
team from Indiana at home with a shutout victory, but Wisconsin's
victory against the Hoosiers Saturday was not nearly as easy.
(11/09/09 6:00am)
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. —Holding the ball on a crucial carry late in
the fourth quarter near the goal line, few running backs want to
see a linebacker standing in the hole with a good shot to make the
tackle.
(11/04/09 6:00am)
Wisconsin wide receiver Kraig Appleton believes in the power of
positive thinking.
(11/03/09 6:00am)
Prior to Saturday's game against Purdue, Wisconsin junior tight
end Lance Kendricks had never even attempted a carry in a game. By
the end of the contest, he had racked up 94 rushing yards,
including a 54-yard burst in the third quarter which led to a
touchdown. With Kendricks' additional 21 yards receiving head coach
Bret Bielema was impressed with his overall play.
