The seventh floor of Humanities is an unlikely place to be filled on a Friday night, but on Friday for the opening of the show Clothing the Gender Gap, the little gallery was full. The atmosphere in the room was simultaneously uncomfortable and curious; after all, we were confronted with images we rarely encounter: men boldly dressed in women’s clothing.

“Mr. Robot” is a rare feat of television that dares to break the rules. USA Network’s revolutionary new series boldly stares society down and unspools a cautionary tale geared towards corporate America and the ugly world we live in. The innovative cinematography perfectly captures the beauty of chaos surrounding our everyday lives. Each carefully crafted element involved in the camerawork expertly mimics and expands on the mental state of Elliot, the main character.

Let’s consider slutty brownies for a moment; craveable cookie dough on the bottom, warm and gooey brownie on the top, with a layer of still-crunchy oreos in between—a combination so unforgivingly delicious it makes people feel guilty about enjoying it.

Comfortable. Cozy. Soft. Trendy. Casual. Stylish. Cute. These are all words that my peers replied with when I asked them about the popular female clothing brand, Brandy Melville. This brand has gained an insane amount of popularity in the last year. The products are, in my opinion, just as described—a socially acceptable way to wear pajamas outside.

Before I get into it, because believe me I’m going to get into it, I want to let all of you dear readers in on my confession. No, I don’t eat my own boogers and yes, I do occasionally sleep with the light on but that is beside the point. I confess to you, dearest readers, that I am an aggressive biker. Yes, I am that guy zooming by your elbow on Library Mall or weaving through pedestrian traffic crossing the crosswalk. I am an asshole, and I embrace it. This doesn’t make it right, though, and frankly at least I know that I am wrong. I just wanted my bias to be in the light before we get down to business.

I had a conversation with a friend of mine over the summer about what upcoming albums I was most excited about. Obviously, albums from Drake, Kanye West and Frank Ocean—where is it Frank?—were on my list, but so was Raury. Earlier this year, Raury said that he would release his first album as a follow-up to his critically acclaimed mixtape, “Indigo Child.” Raury, a 19-year-old from an Atlanta suburb, made a grand entrance into the music scene when he released the artful and powerful music video to “Indigo Child” singles, “God’s Whisper.” He gained public notoriety, but also from figures inside the industry such as André 3000 and Kanye West.

I finally paid a visit to Madison’s new restaurant and bar, HopCat. The establishment finished construction over the summer, opening July 17, and is already a successful business with six other locations. I wasn’t sure what to expect prior to making a visit, but I heard consistent hype about it so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have my own experience. Based on my experience, this new addition to the collection of downtown bars in Madison is in for a long, successful service to the Badger community.

Two weekends ago, the Marquee at Union South played “When Marnie Was There,” the last movie to come out of Studio Ghibli before the studio’s indefinite hiatus. “Marnie,” Hiromasa Yonebayashi’s second film as director, toned back Ghibli’s trademark fantasy and wayward imagination for a more grounded story that flirted between being too convenient and incredibly touching.

The Barrymore was alive with energy and as I approached the flashing sign from the sidewalk there was a line of chattering people winding out the door and a good 5 feet down the sidewalk. A red sign greeted those who were less prepared with a bold “SOLD OUT,” to which they sighed and walked away. Reminiscent of an old movie theater, the Barrymore was looking charming as ever on the evening of the Grace Potter show.

Saintseneca’s dramatic third album Such Things has 15 tracks that are all unique in their own right, but stand together as a cohesive effort. I really am not fond of calculus. I didn’t really understand when math turned from numbers, to letters, to arbitrary symbols. And why use a secret language when words are far more effective? Can’t I just use English to prove my points?
