My “independent” MAGA-voting roommates claim I pushed them to vote for Trump, that my voice was too critical, too condescending and too accusatory. During the election season, I tended to agree. When it came to marketing Kamala Harris as the next president, the Democratic party repeated the same old strategy — urging voters to consider character above all else — even though the country was clearly begging for policy solutions or honest talk. True to my nature as a political science student, I’ve spent much of the first few weeks of the semester examining the Constitution, founding documents and Supreme Court cases in excruciating detail. That said, it’s come as a shock to me how relevant the debates of the 18th and 19th centuries are today.
