Sometime in the last five years, I became intensely aware of
just how rude and inconsiderate many moviegoers are. Without fail,
I always manage to sit next to some complete moron that's just
begging for a swift tire-iron upside the head. People pay up to $10
to go see a film in a theater and then act no differently than if
it were playing in their comfy living room. So, in the vein of
stand-up comedian George Carlin's bit \Complaints and Grievances,""
here's a simple list of movie-goers who oughta be killed.

It was a bittersweet Senior Night at the Kohl Center Sunday
night as the UW women's basketball team (4-12 Big Ten, 10-16
overall) fell to Ohio State (11-5, 19-8), 72-56. Following a
pre-game ceremony honoring the three seniors who were playing their
final home games in a Badger uniform, each left the court having
made a dent in the stat column, but could not tally a win in the
team's regular season finale.

When the No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers (5-1 Big Ten, 14-3 Overall)
tip-off against the Minnesota Gophers (0-7, 8-11) Wednesday night
at the Kohl Center, the Badgers will be in a spot slightly
unfamiliar this season all alone atop the Big Ten standings.

Devin Harris, the Badgers (5-1 Big Ten, 14-3 overall) won their

The Badger men's basketball team had success in recent years in
terms of freshmen being asked to perform in their first year. Two
years ago, those outstanding freshmen were current juniors Mike
Wilkinson and Devin Harris. Last year it was Alando Tucker, a
member of the Big Ten all-freshman team, and sixth-man specialist
Boo Wade.

By the late 18th century, France already had over 250,000
different units of measurements in regular use for scientific and
commercial activities. The confusion among so many measuring units
perpetuated fraud, hampered commerce and limited communication
within France and its neighbors.

In the late '90s, Califone formed from the ashes of the
respected blues influenced indie-rock band Red Red Meat. Since
then, the band has been building up a loyal following,
independently releasing albums on frontman Tim Rutili's record
label, Perishable. The band's upcoming excellent album,
Quicksand/Cradlesnakes, their first released by the seminal Thrill
Jockey record label, is a mellow symphony of piano, strings,
banjos, distortion and laptops that fans of Wilco's Yankee Hotel
Foxtrot should feel right at home with. The Cardinal recently
talked to Rutili about the band's new album and upcoming tour with
label mates the Sea and Cake.

In his novel \Love in the Time of Cholera,"" Gabriel Garcia
Marquez writes of a man, Florentino Ariza, who has been in love
with a married woman for more than 50 years. During that time he
has had hundreds of liaisons, but in his heart he remains true to
his love and waits patiently until he can be with her. In a way I
can relate to poor Florentino Ariza, at least with regards to
music. Although my heart remains faithful to Stephen Malkmus, my
ears have strayed during the long wait until the release of his new
album, Pig Lib. Even with its March release date in sight, I was
unable to resist the temptations offered by other recent
releases.

On Saturday afternoon, Head Coach Bo Ryan kept on doing what he
has done for the past 13 games in Madison: winning. Ryan's
determined Badgers (8-3 Big Ten, 18-5-overall) rallied to defeat a
talented and underachieving Indiana team (5-6, 15-9) 71-59, and in
doing so, are making the Kohl Center one of the most feared places
to play in the Big Ten.
