The difference between a mediocre team and a good one is how
they address problems and how well they fix them. After the
Badgers' two-game skid, it's safe to say that Wisconsin is, at
least, a good team. They obliterated Penn State at the Kohl Center
Wednesday night by 29 points, 72-43.

Any Badger fan who personally witnessed the number of jumpers
the Badgers had rattle out, or the numerous routine lay-ins and
put-backs Wisconsin missed against North Dakota State, may have
thought their team had completely lost its ability to shoot.
However, the Big Ten leading Badgers (5-1 Big Ten, 15-4 overall)
quickly put that myth to rest during one remarkable run in a 72-43
win over Penn State (2-4, 10-7)

Despite the absences of freshman forward Marcus Landry and
sophomore center Greg Stiemsma, the Wisconsin men's basketball team
(4-1 Big Ten, 14-4 overall) had a lot going for them heading into a
match-up against North Dakota State (11-9 overall) Saturday at the
Kohl Center. The Badgers came into the game riding a 27-game
home-winning streak against non-conference opponents, had not lost
two consecutive games in nearly two years, clearly possessed more
talent at every position than the Bison and had their usual 17,142
cardinal and white clad fans cheering them on.

Going on the road and picking up a win in the Big Ten is no easy
task. It becomes even more difficult when you are without two of
your top reserves and face top-20 team in a must-win situation.
This was exactly the hornet's nest the No. 15 Badgers (4-1 Big Ten,
14-13 overall) walked into Wednesday night at Value City Area in
Columbus, Ohio. With its hopes still set on a Big Ten Title, No. 19
Ohio State ( 3-2 Big Ten, 13-2 overall), had no intention of losing
two straight on home court after dropping a double overtime contest
to Michigan State last week. Riding a balanced offensive attack
with four players scoring at least 14 points, the Buckeyes held off
a gutsy effort by a depleted UW squad, and dropped the Badgers
77-67.

With sophomore center Greg Stiemsma and freshman forward Marcus
Landry not joining the team on its trip to Columbus, the Badgers
went into the game against Ohio State with little room for error.
The injury bug bit again early in the first half when sophomore
forward/center Brian Butch rolled his ankle while pulling down a
defensive rebound. This left the Badgers with junior forward Jason
Chappell as their only big-man. Butch did return but the damage was
already done. The Badgers kept senior forward Terrence Dials in
check somewhat by holding him to 15 points, but he only took 10
shots and made seven of them. Stiemsma and Landry were both missed
greatly, and it showed. Wisconsin's bench only produced five points
without Stiemsma and Landry, and the Badger's defense suffered
without possibly their two best defensive big men.

The No. 13 Wisconsin men's basketball team (4-0 Big Ten, 14-2
overall) will face its toughest conference road test so far this
season when they head to Ohio State to take on the No. 19 Buckeyes
(2-2 Big Ten, 14-2 overall).

For Ray Nixon, Saturday's game against Marquette was exactly
what he needed to jump start his final season at Wisconsin.
(12/13/05 6:00am)
Wisconsin's first game after their win over Marquette was
anything but anticlimactic, but Bo Ryan knew Monday's contest
wouldn't be easy.
(12/12/05 6:00am)
Behind a 25-8 run in the last eight minutes of the first half,
Wisconsin erased an early Marquette lead and defeated the Golden
Eagles 77-63 Saturday afternoon at the Kohl Center.

For the second time this season, the Wisconsin men's basketball
team (7-1 overall) will take on a foe from the Colonial Athletic
Association as the Badger's welcome UNC-Wilmington to the Kohl
Center tonight. Having already dispatched of conference favorite
and highly regarded Old Dominion in the championship game of the
Paradise Jam tournament, the well-rested Seahawks (7-1 overall)
will no doubt provide a challenge for a Badger team that could be
playing with tired legs after having only one day of rest to
recover from a hard fought 77-63 victory over Marquette.
(12/09/05 6:00am)
After an abysmal first half, the UW women's basketball team
could not fully recover and were defeated by South Dakota State by
a final score of 68-65.

UW-Green Bay's only lead came at 19:46 in the first half and
lasted 13 seconds.
(12/07/05 6:00am)
This Wednesday, the Badgers play host to the 2-4 UW-Green Bay
Phoenix. The Badgers (5-1) have had a mildly successful year so
far, winning the Paradise Jam tournament to start the year and
winning their first two home games. Their only loss came in a close
game at Wake Forest during the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. The Badgers'
most recent win came over Pepperdine, 71-55, last Saturday.
(12/07/05 6:00am)
When former Badger Boo Wade left the team for good last winter,
sophomore Kammron Taylor knew he would be thrown into the mix
immediately and have to take over as the team's starting point
guard when Sharif Chambliss graduated at the end of the year.
(12/05/05 6:00am)
The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team (5-1)
continued to show they possess a variety of scoring options, as it
seems that every game a new player steps up with a breakout
performance. This Saturday it was junior forward Jason Chappell,
who shot his way into the spotlight and made his presence felt
early and often during the Badgers 71-55 victory over Pepperdine at
the Kohl Center Saturday.
(12/05/05 6:00am)
For the past three years, he's been a player teams have looked
past, but on Saturday against Pepperdine, junior forward Jason
Chappell made them take notice.

The 31st-annual Business Today Conference centering on the
global economy was held in New York City in Times Square from Nov.
19 to 22, keeping in line with its theme, 'Business Without
Borders: The Global Economy.' The keynote speakers were all related
to globalization, according to Ivana Savic, a UW-Madison junior
majoring in French, international business and human management and
resources, who was in attendance.

No. 1 Duke Blue Devils
(11/21/05 6:00am)
In their first two games of the season, the Wisconsin men's
basketball team (2-0 overall) found varying degrees of success;
luckily, both resulted in victories in sunny St. Thomas, U.S.
Virgin Islands. In their first game of the Paradise Jam tournament
on Friday, the Badgers cruised to an 80-51 victory over Norfolk
State behind 23 points from sophomore forward/center Brian Butch
steady shooting (31-of-63 for 49.2 percent) and out- rebounding the
Spartans 43-26.

Every team, college or professional, has one, and every losing
franchise yearns for one. Star players are easy to find. Their
names are at the top of statistical categories, and they don
all-star jerseys or make the list of all-Americans every season.
However, what wins championships is not star power.
