While you would be hard-pressed to find a Badger player or coach willing to admit it, Wisconsin has had this weekend’s matchup with No. 3 Michigan circled on the calendar for quite some time. Despite losing last weekend in Bloomington, Ind., the Wolverines (8-2 Big Ten, 21-2 overall) could easily be the best team in the nation and remain very much in control in a Big Ten race that is just about as tight as gets.

The last time the Badgers (6-3 Big Ten, 15-7 overall) played Iowa (3-6, 14-8), they were coming off a win at then-No. 2 Indiana and atop the conference standings. However, the Hawkeyes jumped out to a 20-point lead in the first half and eventually topped Wisconsin, 70-66, despite a 20-point second-half effort from redshirt freshman guard George Marshall. It was Iowa’s third consecutive win over UW and the first of three Badger losses over a four-game stretch.

For the third straight game, Wisconsin has failed to score 50 points, this time falling a single point shy of the mark in a 58-49 loss to No. 11 Ohio State Tuesday night. Although the Badgers (5-3 Big Ten, 14-7 overall) made a staggering 11 shots from 3-point range, they only managed to hit eight shots from inside the arc, resulting in virtually no inside presence the entire night.

Facing its first real test of the young season, No. 22 Wisconsin came out slow and never gained much speed, turning a quick 9-0 deficit into a 74-56 loss to No. 10 Florida in Gainesville, Fla., Wednesday.

The Wisconsin women’s basketball team (1-0 overall) hosted Milwaukee (1-1) in what appeared to be an evenly matched game Sunday night. Both teams struggled last season, the Badgers going 9-20 and the Panthers 9-21. To add to the suspense, Milwaukee head coach Kyle Rechlicz is a former player and assistant coach at Wisconsin. The night concluded with a 74-56 victory for the Badgers.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but would a book by any other name read as well? Could you imagine “The Great Gatsby” retaining its charms if it were named “Trimalchio” or “Under the Red, White and Blue?” Fitzgerald could’ve. He wanted to call it one of those two, or maybe even “Gold-Hatted Gatsby” or “The High-Bouncing Lover.”

When BioWare first introduced the “Mass Effect” series, they set out to create a franchise where meaningful decisions were carried over from one game to the next. There had been similar promises before by other titles, but none were able to do so successfully. “Mass Effect 3” delivers on everything BioWare has promised from the beginning, giving players an explosive finale to their grand space opera and in the process, crafting one of the most personal gaming experiences possible.
