With the departure of Brian Calhoun and Booker Stanley from the
Badger backfield, the running back situation heading into the 2006
season for Wisconsin is left marred with uncertainty. Calhoun and
Stanley will take 1,976 yards rushing and 635 receiving with them,
good for over 94 percent of the entire Badger running backs'
production last season.

This is not the way the Wisconsin men's basketball team wanted
to head into post season play.

Anyone familiar with Wisconsin men's head basketball coach Bo
Ryan knows he rarely makes excuses, whether it is for his players,
his own coaching or the team's overall play. But even Ryan
acknowledged the role fatigue played in the Badgers' poor
performance in their loss to Iowa Saturday.

The highest-scoring trio in the nation lived up to their billing
Thursday night, as Michigan State's 'Big Three' combined for 64
points and powered the Spartans (20-9 overall, 8-7 Big Ten) to a
74-65 victory over Wisconsin.

On Ray Nixon Day at the Kohl Center, the Wisconsin men's
basketball team turned back a scrappy performance by Minnesota and
captured its ninth conference win by defeating the Gophers 80-74.
Junior forward Alando Tucker paced the Badgers (9-5 Big Ten, 19-8
overall) with 22 points and was supported by strong performances
from freshman forwards Joe Krabbenhoft (10 points, 10 rebounds) and
Kevin Gullikson, who scored a collegiate-high 12 points.

The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team (8-4 Big Ten,
18-7 overall) will head into Evanston tonight to take on
Northwestern as the team begins a critical four-game stretch to
close out the Big Ten regular season.

Behind a frenzied sellout crowd of 17, 142 Wednesday night at
the Kohl Center, the Wisconsin men's basketball team rallied late
in the second half to a 78-73 victory over Ohio State. The Badgers
rode the strong play of junior forward Alando Tucker, who turned in
arguably his best all-around performance of the season, posting 27
points and a season-high 16 rebounds on the Buckeyes (7-4 Big Ten,
18-4 overall).

After a big victory, coaches often say 'A win is a win.'
However, for the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team,
(6-4 Big Ten, 16-7 overall) Wednesday night's 72-54 drubbing of
Indiana accomplished a lot more than just putting another 'W' in
the win column. It pulled them out of a five loss in six game slide
that not only threatened to drop the Badgers from the Big Ten title
race, but also from contention for the NCAA tournament.

For the Badgers, a trip to West Lafayette, Ind. was supposed to
be a cure for what has been ailing them of late. Losers of four of
their last five coming into the game, a matchup with the last-place
Boilermakers looked to be a relatively easy victory that would snap
the Badgers out of their recent slump and keep them in the thick of
the Big Ten title race.

Any Badger fan who personally witnessed the number of jumpers
the Badgers had rattle out, or the numerous routine lay-ins and
put-backs Wisconsin missed against North Dakota State, may have
thought their team had completely lost its ability to shoot.
However, the Big Ten leading Badgers (5-1 Big Ten, 15-4 overall)
quickly put that myth to rest during one remarkable run in a 72-43
win over Penn State (2-4, 10-7)
(01/23/06 6:00am)
Despite the absences of freshman forward Marcus Landry and
sophomore center Greg Stiemsma, the Wisconsin men's basketball team
(4-1 Big Ten, 14-4 overall) had a lot going for them heading into a
match-up against North Dakota State (11-9 overall) Saturday at the
Kohl Center. The Badgers came into the game riding a 27-game
home-winning streak against non-conference opponents, had not lost
two consecutive games in nearly two years, clearly possessed more
talent at every position than the Bison and had their usual 17,142
cardinal and white clad fans cheering them on.

Going on the road and picking up a win in the Big Ten is no easy
task. It becomes even more difficult when you are without two of
your top reserves and face top-20 team in a must-win situation.
This was exactly the hornet's nest the No. 15 Badgers (4-1 Big Ten,
14-13 overall) walked into Wednesday night at Value City Area in
Columbus, Ohio. With its hopes still set on a Big Ten Title, No. 19
Ohio State ( 3-2 Big Ten, 13-2 overall), had no intention of losing
two straight on home court after dropping a double overtime contest
to Michigan State last week. Riding a balanced offensive attack
with four players scoring at least 14 points, the Buckeyes held off
a gutsy effort by a depleted UW squad, and dropped the Badgers
77-67.

Before Monday night's battle with UNC-Wilmington had even
started, head coach Bo Ryan and his Badgers knew they would be in
for a tough game. The Seahawks were giving up only 56 points per
game and holding teams to just 37.9 percent shooting from the
floor. Junior point guard Kammron Taylor knew he might have to face
the worst of it going up against the Seahawks' 2004-05 Colonial
Athletic Association defensive player of the year, senior point
guard John Goldsberry. Through the first 35:03 of the game, this
proved to be exactly the case.
(12/12/05 6:00am)
For senior forward Ray Nixon, the talent has been there since
the day he first set foot on campus. The 6'7' frame with
outstanding athleticism. The smooth outside jumper. The ability to
put the ball on the floor and drive to the hoop. But there was one
thing that was lacking; something four years in the Badger program
is helping him develop.
(12/12/05 6:00am)
For the second time this season, the Wisconsin men's basketball
team (7-1 overall) will take on a foe from the Colonial Athletic
Association as the Badger's welcome UNC-Wilmington to the Kohl
Center tonight. Having already dispatched of conference favorite
and highly regarded Old Dominion in the championship game of the
Paradise Jam tournament, the well-rested Seahawks (7-1 overall)
will no doubt provide a challenge for a Badger team that could be
playing with tired legs after having only one day of rest to
recover from a hard fought 77-63 victory over Marquette.
(12/06/05 6:00am)
In his 21 seasons as a head coach of a University of Wisconsin
system school, Badger head basketball coach Bo Ryan has always been
a vocal proponent of the basketball in the state.
(12/05/05 6:00am)
The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team (5-1)
continued to show they possess a variety of scoring options, as it
seems that every game a new player steps up with a breakout
performance. This Saturday it was junior forward Jason Chappell,
who shot his way into the spotlight and made his presence felt
early and often during the Badgers 71-55 victory over Pepperdine at
the Kohl Center Saturday.
(11/29/05 6:00am)
The Wisconsin men's basketball team heads into a match-up
against No. 24 Wake Forest (5-1) tonight with a full head of steam
after their dominant 92-54 victory over Coastal Carolina Saturday
night at the Kohl Center. Playing their first contest of the season
in an opposing team's home area, the Badgers (4-0) will have to be
on top of their game to take down the Demon Deacons, as both teams
participate in the seventh annual Big Ten-ACC Challenge. Winning in
Winston-Salem has proven to be no easy task for opponents, as the
Deacons will look to Lawrence Joel Coliseum to protect their
20-game winning streak, the fifth-longest in the country.
(11/21/05 6:00am)
In their first two games of the season, the Wisconsin men's
basketball team (2-0 overall) found varying degrees of success;
luckily, both resulted in victories in sunny St. Thomas, U.S.
Virgin Islands. In their first game of the Paradise Jam tournament
on Friday, the Badgers cruised to an 80-51 victory over Norfolk
State behind 23 points from sophomore forward/center Brian Butch
steady shooting (31-of-63 for 49.2 percent) and out- rebounding the
Spartans 43-26.
