College is too short to spend all of your time in class. Though
you certainly learn valuable skills and lessons from the
university, you will grow and learn more about life and yourself
outside of the lecture hall.

No one ever told me it would be this hard. After high school
graduation, most of us have somewhere to go'to college. But after
college, the path is unpaved. After college, life is supposed to
start. But where and doing what?

To former President Bill Clinton, the spork served as the
perfect analogy for his administration: \This is the symbol of my
administration, a cross between a spoon and a fork. No more false
choice between the left utensil and the right utensil. This is a
choice in the middle and a choice for the future.""

Jim Doyle is proving to be a great politician. In the last
couple of months, he has taken actions as Wisconsin's attorney
general to attempt to save money for the state, provide money for
UW-Madison research and encourage a \clean"" campaign in
September's Democratic primary. Of course, all of these actions
have landed his name and his face squarely on the front page of
local newspapers'giving him an advantage over the other three
candidates: U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett, D-Wis., Dane County Executive
Kathleen Falk and state Sen. Gary George, D-Milwaukee.

While patriotism has found a new resurgence over the past few
weeks, much of it is inherently un-American. Since the attack on
America, U.S. citizens have attempted to be patriotic, waving flags
and wearing red, white and blue. But in reality, the ideals at the
core of American values are fading behind the guise of national
unity. The United States relies on the popular, but not always
accepted, right to free speech. In our patriotic zeal, many have
hypocritically denounced the opinions of those criticizing
President Bush and his administration, saying that we cannot
succeed putting forth a divided front. However, in times like
these, protecting free speech is more important than ever. It's too
easy to give the government too much power and lose a central
American value.

Americans are born with a deep-rooted intuition that the United
States will prevail no matter what obstacles it faces. The recent
terrorist attacks forced us to momentarily doubt this belief, but
our confidence could not be suppressed for long. Within hours,
citizens were calling for action, for a response to the hijackings.
We have since united as a nation to help the recovery effort by
volunteering our time and energy and donating blood and money. The
American Red Cross has already collected an astounding $129 million
to date.
