It's March and the women's basketball team hopes will look to
provide a little madness of its own when it travels down to the
Conseco Field House in Indianapolis for the Big Ten Women's
Tournament. The Badgers (5-11 Big Ten, 11-15 overall) open play
Thursday at 2 p.m. against the Indiana Hoosiers (3-13, 10-17) and
will have the opportunity to avenge a Feb. 3 defeat earlier in the
season at the hands of IU.

With midterms in full swing on the UW campus, a good portion of
Wisconsin students spent last night studying for their exams. So
too did UW freshman guard Jolene Anderson. It's just that instead
of being interrupted by a game of Madden, a coffee break or phone
call from a friend urging her to blow off studying and head to the
bars, Anderson was called away from her studies for a brief moment
as head coach Lisa Stone congratulated her on being named Big Ten
Freshman of the Year.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.-For the second time in less than a month,
Wisconsin (7-4 Big Ten, 16-6 overall) had the opportunity to knock
off the top-ranked team in the nation when the Badgers invaded
Champaign, Ill. Saturday. But behind the trio of Illinois guards
and a record crowd of 16,865 in Assembly Hall, the Fighting Illini
crushed any hope of a Wisconsin upset for the second time this
season with a 70-59 victory.

It has been three years since the Wisconsin women's basketball
team has participated in postseason play aside from the Big Ten
Tournament, a period during which the Badgers rarely have played a
\meaningful"" game. The demons of the previous three years may be
forgotten Thursday as the Badgers (3-7 Big Ten, 9-11 overall) try
to inch ever closer toward the .500 mark when Illinois (5-6, 13-8)
invades the Kohl Center.
(02/03/05 6:00am)
All season long the Wisconsin women's basketball team has fought
and clawed with the best post players in the nation. But despite
valiant efforts against some of the top teams in the country, the
undersized Badgers (2-6 Big Ten, 8-10 overall) have struggled down
low in Big Ten play for much of the year. But if Sunday's 79-71
victory against Michigan is any indication, the bruises UW
experienced in the first half of the Big Ten season are starting to
pay dividends.
(01/31/05 6:00am)
The same day the University of Wisconsin celebrated its 30th
anniversary of women's campus sports, the Badgers (2-7 Big Ten,
8-10 overall) also celebrated their first conference victory since
Jan. 2 with a 79-71 win over Michigan (1-8, 5-15).

After a two-week break prior to Big Ten play, head coach Lisa
Stone's squad was rested and confident heading into conference
play. But a tough schedule and poor shooting performances resulted
in a difficult holiday season for the Badgers.
(12/09/04 6:00am)
Christmas break is a time for students to sit back, relax and in
some cases maybe even reflect on the semester. And for the
Wisconsin women's basketball team, the holiday break will have a
similar ring to ... that is, until the Big Ten season kicks off
Dec. 30 against conference power Purdue.

The Wisconsin football team lost an opportunity to play in the
$14 million Rose Bowl when it stumbled through the final two games
of the season. In the process, UW lost a Big Ten Championship, a
Bowl Championship Series appearance and plenty of luster in its
2004 campaign. However, neither the university nor Athletic
Department lost a single dime.

The Wisconsin women's basketball team (1-0 overall) opened up
their 2004-'05 campaign in convincing fashion Friday night with a
82-49 drubbing of IUPUI in both teams' season opener.
(11/18/04 6:00am)
The members of the Wisconsin women's basketball team have been
waiting for Friday night since their 2004-'05 schedule was released
months ago. Sure, the Badgers have taken to the Kohl Center floor
in two exhibition games this fall, but Friday night's season opener
against IUPUI will have a different feel to it.

EAST LANSING, Mich.-Down 21-14 with less than one minute
remaining in the first half Saturday, the Badgers had a chance to
tie the game heading into the locker room. They had the ball with a
first-and-goal on the one yard line with the game, and their
undefeated season, on the line, but could not gain the necessary
inches to get the ball across the goal line in four plays.

With victory comes recognition. With recognition comes exposure.
And usually, with exposure comes an increase in success. In the
highly competitive world of collegiate recruiting it is things like
conference championships and national championships that help boost
a program's prestige and make a school all the more attractive for
high school juniors and seniors.

The Lisa Stone era enters its second year and the Badgers are
eager to improve on last season's 10-17 record. Head Coach Stone
and the rest of the UW women's basketball team are confident that
with a year of experience adjusting to each other, a talented
freshman class will bode well when the regular season kicks off
Nov. 19 against IUPUI.
(10/28/04 6:00am)
Two years ago Brian Calhoun's freshman season ended with a
painful memory when his Colorado Buffaloes were stunned 31-28 in
overtime by his home-state team, the Wisconsin Badgers. As Calhoun
watched the Badgers celebrate, he could have never envisioned some
of those players in cardinal and white would one day be his
teammates.
(10/22/04 6:00am)
With Midnight Madness officially kicking off the 2004-'05 season
last Saturday, the UW basketball team is already preparing to
defend their Big Ten post-season title. However, this year's team
will have a much different makeup than the Badger teams of the past
three years that have all won either the Big Ten regular season, or
conference tournament.

The No. 6 Wisconsin men's hockey team (0-0-0 Western Collegiate
Hockey Association, 2-0-0 overall) hosts its second opponent this
weekend when the Michigan Tech Huskies (0-2-0, 0-2-0) invade the
Kohl Center. The Badgers are coming off a sweep of Mercyhurst last
weekend but are well aware that there is no room for complacency
when the winless Huskies take the ice.
(10/11/04 6:00am)
COLUMBUS, OHIO--The stifling Wisconsin defense that has become
synonymous with football Saturdays at UW this season continued its
domination in the Badgers 24-13 victory over No. 18 Ohio State. The
Badgers' defense kept their opponent from reaching the end zone
again, marking the fourth game this season that opposing offenses
have failed to score a touchdown.

The crew of Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler will
return to Madison this weekend as ESPN's pregame show College
GameDay will broadcast live outside Camp Randall prior to the
Badgers (3-0 overall) game against Penn State (2-1). This marks the
second straight year, and the third time in the last five years,
GameDay has traveled to Madison as the trio visited UW for its game
against Purdue in 2003.
(09/14/04 6:00am)
With only two seniors on the University of Wisconsin volleyball
team, one might assume that the Badgers are in a rebuilding year.
However, do not tell that to the seven freshmen who compose nearly
half the UW roster.
