Marcus Sedberry will serve as Wisconsin’s interim director of athletics, UW Athletics announced Monday, replacing Chris McIntosh. Sedberry, who has worked for UW Athletics since 2022, has held multiple positions, including deputy athletics director, COO and Wisconsin football general manager.
In his role as GM, Sedbury oversaw roster management, player personnel and operations for the program.
"Marcus has played a big part in building our 2025 roster and enhancing our program's operations," head football coach Luke Fickell said at the time of Sedburry’s hiring.
Sedberry has “led or co-led several of Wisconsin’s most consequential initiatives,” including the new Kellner Family Athletic Center and the Building Champions Capital campaign, according to UW Athletics.
Before UW, Sedberry worked as senior associate athletic director for Baylor University and director of player engagement for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Sedberry’s hiring comes after the sudden departure of previous Athletic Director Chris McIntosh, who left to become deputy commissioner of strategy at the Big Ten. McIntosh’s tenure was marked by tremendous change in the college sports landscape, notably the beginning of the Name, Image, and Likeness era.
In a statement emailed to students on Monday, outgoing Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin said it will be up to interim Chancellor Eric Wilcots to "take the lead in determining what a search for a new director of athletics may look like and when it will occur."
